About the Role:

The DEI Advisor plays a key role in shaping a workplace where every employee feels respected, represented, and supported. This role leads the development and execution of meaningful DEI strategies, bringing research, insight, and creativity to both new and existing initiatives. Working closely with HR, leaders, and the DEI Committee, the Advisor ensures that policies, programs, and day-to-day practices reflect the organization’s commitment to equity and inclusion. From enhancing recruitment approaches and guiding culturally informed training, to supporting communications and tracking progress against DEI goals, this position helps the organization build a more accessible, culturally aware, and community-connected workplace for all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Researches, develops, recommends, and executes creative strategies to foster the organizations diversity, equity, and inclusive goals.
  • Reviews current practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder the company’s diversity goals.
  • Collects and analyzes statistical data to evaluate the company’s population in accordance with diversity standards and goals.
  • Drafts and implements recruiting and hiring strategies to attract employees from diverse backgrounds with Human Resources Team.
  • Develops and/or acquires training and development to aid diversity and retention initiatives.
  • Provides guidance to supervisory and human resources staff in developing objective performance and other employee evaluations and policies.
  • Responsible to support the DEI committee and work on various initiatives with the committee members.
  • Coordinates regular communication related to DEI education and awareness (including Cultural observances and celebrations, community news, etc.)
  • Works with our Communications team to co-create a communications strategy supporting the DEI committee and JG DEI objectives
  • Maintains knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education that would support the incumbents understanding of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the workplace or experience in developing and maintaining a DEI program.
  • Strong knowledge of the Manitoba and Canadian Human Rights Act, Pay Equity Act of Canada, Employment Standards in all provinces, The Accessibility for Manitobans Act, anti-racism and an understanding of Truth and Reconciliation calls to action.
  • Ability to develop and maintain creative and innovative programs and services.
  • Strong organizational, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective intercultural communication skills and ability to advocate and address issues of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Sensitivity and understanding of specific barriers which lead to a lack of access and engagement for employees.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in both written and verbal presentation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural values and norms of various communities, particularly of BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and those with disabilities.
  • Understanding of culturally specific resources available within the community.
