Child & Youth Care Worker

We’re hiring: Child & Youth Care Worker Support. Guide. Connect. Sturgeon Public Schools is currently seeking a Full-Time Temporary Child & Youth Care Worker for a work assignment at Bon Accord School. In this role, you will work directly with teachers and educational assistants to support students with diverse needs in a nurturing and engaging environment. Bon Accord Community School offers K-4 programming and is located approximately 20 minutes north of the City of Edmonton in the Town of Bon Accord. The school has a student population of approximately 240 students and a dedicated teaching and support staff working together as a team to provide exemplary education to all students. The school nurtures a safe and caring environment through offering various programs to encourage strong leadership. This assignment is subject to change based on operational requirements. What You’ll Be Doing Under the direction of the classroom teacher, the CYC will:

• Observe, assess, and document student behaviours and safety needs
• Support students during classroom activities and learning routines
• Teach appropriate life skills and social-emotional strategies
• Build trust and rapport through meaningful interactions and activities
• Intervene in crisis situations and maintain a therapeutic approach to behaviour management
• Provide academic encouragement and support
• Collaborate with classroom teams in decision-making and problem-solving
• Help plan or participate in school events and professional learning opportunities

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Care or Social Work
• A Child and Youth Care diploma may be considered
• 2+ years’ experience in a related role
• Knowledge of addiction, mental health, and child development
• Familiarity with the emotional, educational, and recreational needs of children and youth
