Star Marketing is one of Canada’s leading Specialty ~ Natural ~ Organic Food
Distributors and has been in operation for over 45 years. Star Marketing represents
over 55 brands from around the world and services all classes of trade in the
Consumer Packaged Goods dry grocery segment. We are experiencing rapid growth
and are looking to add to our dynamic team.
Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for managing select Western regional accounts as well as manage Principal Partners within the Star Marketing portfolio. The successful BDM will be expected to meet & surpass corporate targets while acting as a leader within the CPG industry, focus on developing the business of Star Marketing & the brands we represent through the growth of his/her key accounts, excellent execution, trade knowledge and financial acumen.
Key responsibilities:
- Meet and surpass sales objectives and corporate ambitions
- Identify key opportunities for each of our brands
- Manage a select group of key regional accounts and ensure budgets and marketing plans are adhered to.
- Support the development of customer presentations with category stories, competitive advantages, capabilities and product presentations.
- Actively present & negotiate sales/distribution opportunities to assigned customers
- Track and monitor the success of new listings, distribution gaps / opportunities, spend levels by brand & accounts.
- Develop relationship with account contacts; engage in dialogue to understand needs
- Closely and frequently monitor sales performance, identify risks & opportunities
- Build solid promotional plans & brand launch support
- Identify trends, provide relevant & strategic feedback for management decisions
- Overcome customer concerns and objections by demonstrating value
Desired Skills and Experience
- Post-secondary education in business or marketing, 2+ years in the CPG industry would be a strong benefit.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, a can-do attitude with a bias to action, and an ability to work within formal and informal business teams.
- Must have strong project management skills and able to manage timelines / deadlines.
- Candidate should be a confident decision maker who has a strong interest in marketing and consumer behaviour who responds quickly to change, is curious, with an ability to analyze data and situations and present key findings. (Ability to analyze Nielsen data a definite asset)
- Candidate should have an above average working knowledge of basic computer programs, (Excel & PowerPoint).
- Have strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize multiple data facts, make business recommendations and present data with ease.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
