About Your New Role Reporting to the Superintendent, Mill Operations, the Supervisor, Metallurgy, will be responsible for managing the operational aspects of the Assay Laboratory and Metallurgy. You will oversee and coordinate all laboratory and metallurgical functions. You will be responsible for the accurately reporting of assay samples along with mill reporting of gold in circuit along with performing metallurgical test work. Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the entire Assay team.
  • Provide a platform for strong leadership and workforce empowerment by training and developing for assay lab employees in all aspects of the lab functions and duties.
  • Coordinate and liaison with the mill, geological and mining departments to ensure all samples are accounted for and assayed within the established turnaround timelines.
  • Develop appropriate industry standard assay procedures.
  • Direct and coordinate with mill maintenance and external vendors in the development PM schedule for all the lab equipment.
  • Ensure weekly production targets are met, research and implement new technology as available to increase effectiveness and efficiency of assay operations.
  • Ensuring that lab employees work safely and in accordance with applicable legislation, and company policy.
  • Maintain and control assay/met laboratory inventory and place orders as required to ensure continuous operations.
  • Collaborate with Superintendent and Supervisors to monitor plant parameters, identify deviations, and suggest optimization solutions.
  • Work with operations teams to develop and implement process optimization strategies aimed at improving recovery rates and reducing operational costs.
  • Conduct various laboratory tests including carbon attrition and activity, bottle roll cyanidation, diagnostic leach, flocculation, and GRG tests to optimize plant performance.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support mill sampling campaigns for accurate data collection and analysis.
  • Conduct metallurgical accounting to ensure accurate tracking of materials and processes.
  • Maintain the efficient and accurate operation of mass meters, and samplers throughout the production process.
  • Manage reagent inventory and ensuring adequate supply levels.
  • Instruct assay lab personnel with the mill assay prioritize samples and obtain timely results for decision-making.
  • Provide support for refinery tasks when necessary.
  • Analyze data and prepare technical documentation to support operational decisions.
  • Utilize operational excellence methodologies to uphold high-quality standards in all activities.
  • Foster a strong safety culture by engaging and empowering team members.

Your Knowledge And Skills

  • A positive and proactive attitude towards safety.
  • Strong expertise of mineral processing and extraction.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective organizational, time management and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and metallurgical software. Experience with Power BI and AutoCAD would be considered an asset.
  • Expert level organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent interpersonal/relationship skills – able to work and communicate with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization, along with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong work ethic.
  • Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must be capable of implementing changes to improve operational results.
  • Effectively prioritize duties and solve problems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with the utmost professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

Your Education And Experience The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelors in Process/metallurgical/chemical/materials engineering program.
  • Registered with Professional Engineering Designation would be considered an asset.
  • Must understand optimizing mill throughput and recovery.
  • Previous experience in a gold processing plant is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in Metallurgy.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of direct supervisory responsibilities.

About Our Working Conditions This position has a schedule of 14 days on, 14 days off at our remote camp which you will be required to fly in fly out with pick up points in Saskatoon, Prince Albert and La Ronge.
