We are SLR Consulting (Canada), a 700+ team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals across 20+ office locations in Canada. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. We are Making Sustainability Happen. As our new Senior Environmental Professional, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal. Role In this position, you will provide senior expertise to support responsibilities for a variety of programs related to the assessment, monitoring, management, and remediation of contaminated sites. Project locations will be focused on Alberta; therefore, a strong understanding and familiarity with Alberta regulations is required. Experience also working in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the north is an asset. With support and mentorship from SLR’s strong roster of senior staff, you’ll be responsible for oversight, technical support, and professional sign-off of high-quality work to our varied clients including projects at a range of urban and remote sites. This includes upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas facilities, commercial and industrial properties, and federal and municipal sites. Your extensive technical knowledge and experience will be invaluable to our team and will see you working closely with our clients, maintaining satisfaction, building long-term relationships, and helping grow our portfolio of work. You’ll be involved in the full life cycle of projects including developing and reviewing proposals and work plans, coordinating and executing projects, managing budgets, client support and communication, data analysis, technical reporting, and conducting senior technical reviews. Your role will be predominantly office-based with opportunities to complete site visits to mentor staff and support the requirements of certain projects. Responsibilities

  • Provide senior technical review, oversight, and sign-off on environmental assessment, remediation, and reclamation projects across Alberta
  • Work with other senior professional technical experts to manage technical groups and technical programs, and communicate industry best practices and technical advances to project teams
  • Provide leadership through open and positive communications with all staff
  • Communicate directly with clients to maintain the highest levels of customer satisfaction
  • Mentor junior, intermediate, and senior staff in project management/fieldwork/task management skills
  • Provide leadership in Health and Safety through open and positive communications with all staff
  • Prepare remediation options analyses, remedial action plans and associated design works Review and analyze data, design assessment and remediation programs, and review technical reports and communications
  • Plan, report and track schedules and budgets, all as part of project financial management

Qualifications/Education/Memberships

  • Minimum of a degree or a technical diploma in environmental science, engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or environmental related studies
  • Ideally 15+ years of experience in contaminated site work including managing, leading, and directing environmental site assessments (Phase I, II, and III ESAs), soil, soil vapour, and groundwater sampling, and remediation programs
  • Experience working on and reviewing complex assessment and remediation programs at hydrocarbon and salinity impacted sites
  • Experience working on federal government projects and in the energy sector (upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas facilities) are significant assets
  • Experience with various emerging contaminants of concern including PFAS is a significant asset
  • Experience with various remediation techniques (e.g. excavation, in-situ and ex-situ bioremediation, chemical oxidation, soil vapour and multi-phase extraction, monitored natural attenuation), risk assessment and reclamation is an asset
  • Knowledge and practical application of health & safety requirements unique to oil and gas facilities, construction sites, subsurface investigations, and contaminated sites
  • In-depth knowledge and experience working with various provincial and national regulatory frameworks and bodies (e.g., AEPA, AER, and Federal Regulations)
  • Professional status or eligibility for professional status and regulatory sign-off capability for contaminated site assessment and remediation work in Alberta with APEGA (P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., P.Tech, etc.) is required, with the ability to register with other provincial associations
