Position Overview

We are looking for a Full Time Event Manager to oversee our offsite operations at UBC-Robson Square. This is a front-of-house role that blends leadership, client service, and hands-on logistics. The Event Manager serves as the main point of contact for the client and liaises directly with UBC-Robson Square Event Management, ensuring smooth operations, flawless service, and the upholding of Savoury Chef’s brand.

The role involves daily execution and maintenance of multiple events, ranging from lunch, breakfast, coffee breaks and receptions. The role will also conduct and/or oversee physical setup and takedown, maintain service standards and troubleshoot challenges as they arise. You will also work closely with our Events Operations Manager, contributing to administrative support, and pre-event preparation. This role is ideal for someone who is polished and professional, but also resourceful, proactive, and comfortable working hard behind the scenes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and lead these offsite events, ensuring client satisfaction from start to finish
  • Serve as the primary onsite contact for clients, Savoury Chef Foods staff and UBC- Robson Square staff
  • Supervise and guide servers and bartenders, when required
  • Order and maintain inventories (dry goods, disposables, linens, perishables)
  • Daily administrative duties related to operations (ordering, event follow up, emails, etc)
  • Maintain and safeguard Savoury Chef wares, equipment and resources
  • Conduct physical event setup and takedown, ensuring safety and efficiency
  • Troubleshoot and resolve last-minute challenges with professionalism and composure
  • Attend UBC-Robson Square led weekly event meetings
  • Attend Monthly Joint Health Safety Committee meetings led by UBC-Robson Square
  • Collaborate with kitchen, logistics, and sales associate team members to ensure seamless execution and communication between UBC-Robson Square and Savoury Chef
  • Uphold company standards for hospitality, service, and presentation at every event

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of event management, banquet captain, or restaurant supervisory experience (required)
  • Previous experience with buffets, plated events, cocktail receptions, and other service styles (required)
  • Valid BC Driver’s License (required)
  • Serving It Right certification (required)
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Fluent in English (required); additional languages an asset
  • Positive, proactive, and solutions-focused attitude
  • Physically capable of lifting 25+ lbs (up to 50 lbs preferred) and performing event setup/takedown
  • Flexible schedule. Must be available evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Catering experience (asset)
  • Foodsafe certification (asset)
  • Bartending or barista experience (asset)
