SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Senior Engineer, Automation provides experienced and advanced engineering services to support SaskEnergy’s automation facilities including central plant facility automation, computer facilities, communications systems and remote field control. The Senior Engineer leads the implementation of highly technical computer, control, instrument and communications facilities for the safe, efficient and economical control of the pipeline system. This includes the provision, supervision and coordination of technical services for engineering activities or project requirements, ensuring sound application and development of engineering and industry practices, technological advancements; and identification and recommendation of effective business solutions to support departmental and Corporate objectives. Position Details

  • Non-union - This position is permanent full time.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, prepare, review and approve engineering designs, software implementations, standards, design specifications and business reports. This includes making provisions for public and employee safety in accordance with legislated requirements.
  • Manage major projects and/or long term programs of a multidisciplinary or complex nature involving engineering design, construction and on-site commissioning of project related assets to ensure projects proceed safely, are on budget and are executed according to planned schedules.
  • Provide technical support by applying advanced engineering principles in the investigation, analysis and resolution of problems.
  • Develop and deliver advanced technical training to field staff and participate in the development and delivery of communications by facilitating change management on automation programming improvements.
  • Identify opportunities, develop plans and business cases to optimize complex systems, technologies & facilities while challenging current practices and providing advice for capital strategic & operational projects, automation standards and support strategies.
  • Provide oversight, technical mentorship and guidance to junior staff and external contractors to ensure the delivery of sound engineering designs, programming implementations whilst ensuring internal and external resources adhere to corporate standards and best practices.
  • Maintain an awareness of industry developments and best practices.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Degree in Engineering (Electrical or Electronics Systems is preferred) and/or
  • Professional Engineer Designation qualified to practice in Saskatchewan.
  • Eight (8) plus years of progressive engineering experience related to the automation of pipeline and compression facilities in the oil and gas industry; demonstrated competency in process automation and programming that includes complex problem solving, project management, coaching and mentorship; strong working knowledge and understanding of natural gas industry practices and industry standards.

A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered. Additional Information

  • Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters is required.
  • This job requires significant travel time.
