Overview

The Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) Rare Earth Elements team is seeking a strong decision-maker and people leader to fill the role of Process Engineering Manager. This role is responsible for guiding Rare Earth Elements (REE) projects from concept through to commercialization. The Process Engineering Manager leads the Research and Development (R&D) team and oversees employees, budgets, and workflows to achieve strategic objectives, while fostering innovation and maintaining rigorous safety standards.

Accountabilities

  • Manage and support a diverse, multidisciplinary team with clear objectives, providing guidance, and evaluating performance while fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment
  • Manage engineering and project plans for Rare Earth Element process engineering, hydrometallurgical testing, solvent extraction, metallization, and commercialization projects, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget
  • Apply sound financial decision making to manage the R&D budget, tracking project spending and day-to- day administration of budgets
  • Direct design and engineering for internal and client projects within the Rare Earth Elements R&D group; oversee design standards, validate technical specifications, and maintain compliance with project requirements
  • Analyze technical challenges and collaboratively develop practical, innovative solutions for various aspects of Rare Earth Element processing, from experimental design and pilot testing, through to commercialization
  • Maintain and develop strong client relationships, ensuring timely updates are provided
  • Prepare reports and proposals for management and clients including for source funding, project milestones, and progress
  • Support development of intellectual property through inception, progression, and documentation
  • Supervise commercial activities including tendering, procurement, and vendor communication
  • Support continuous employee development and enforce best practices for quality work
  • Communicate effectively across departments and with senior management to provide regular project and team updates
  • Promote SRC’s health and safety culture by directing all work to be performed safely, and lead the integration of safety into every R&D project

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Process or Chemical Engineering, with at least 5 years experience in a people leadership role
  • Registration or eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) is required
  • Post-graduate degrees in Process or Chemical Engineering are considered an asset

  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and deadlines, while exercising sound judgment and taking initiative to complete project requirements

The chosen candidate will also be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.
