Overview
The Saskatchewan Research Council is seeking an Associate Engineer/Scientist to support projects within the Project CLEANS (Cleanup of Abandoned Northern Sites) team. This role will provide comprehensive project coordination support for project activities, manage documentation, track budgets and schedules, and facilitate communication with vendors and stakeholders. While this role is primarily based out of SRC’s Saskatoon office, some field work will be required.
Accountabilities
- Provide support to project managers working out of Gunnar Mine and Mill, Lorado Mill, and Satellite Sites in all project activities including daily decision-making and meeting deliverables
- Track project schedules and budgets, reviewing financials and coordinate payment for invoices and change orders
- Participate in creation of technical reports, applications for licenses and permits, management system documents, work instructions and safe work procedures
- Coordinate the site change process by reviewing contracts and communicating changes to contractors
- Act as a communication channel between vendors, the project team and stakeholders
- Participate in procurement activities, such as evaluation and selection of vendors, creation of request for proposals, tenders and gathering supporting documentation
- Carry out quality control and quality assurance activities
- While working in the field, conduct site inspections and audits, environmental sampling and provide direction to on-site contractors with regards to contractual scope of work and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Engineering or Science degree in a field related to the environment, remediation or mining
- 3-5 years of experience in a related field such as environment, remediation, engineering, geology, mining or construction
- Field work experience is preferred but not required
- Registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) is required for applicable candidates
- Experience working with Saskatchewan regulations and regulatory agencies is an asset
- Project management certification or PMP designation is an asset
Skills
- Excellent planning and coordinating skills with the ability to deliver quality work
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proactive individual with a high attention to detail and critical thinking skills
- Strong time management and organization skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks
- Knowledge of project management tools such as Microsoft Project
Requirements
- Travel to remote, radiation-impacted abandoned mine sites for up to 2 weeks at a time
- Extended working hours (up to 12 hours per day) while in the field
- Travel by small aircraft, boat and all-terrain vehicles
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Willingness to be designated as Nuclear Energy Worker (training will be provided)
The chosen candidate will also be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.
