Position Title: Director of Software Development

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Software Development to lead and oversee all aspects of the software development lifecycle. This critical role involves setting strategy, managing teams, and driving innovation to deliver high-quality, scalable software solutions. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in managing complex projects and leading high-performing technical teams in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Team Development:

  • Guide, mentor, and motivate a team of software engineers, architects, and quality assurance professionals to excel in their roles.
  • Cultivate a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Define clear goals, assess performance, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Address disciplinary matters with leadership as needed to maintain a productive work environment.

Strategic Planning:

  • Design and execute software development strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to establish and prioritize key product features and improvements.
  • Stay informed of industry trends and emerging technologies to keep products competitive and innovative.
  • Propose strategic initiatives to optimize departmental performance and profitability.
  • Present comprehensive performance metrics to leadership and forecast staffing plans based on project pipelines.

Project Oversight:

  • Plan, execute, and deliver software development projects on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
  • Implement project management best practices for efficiency and consistency.
  • Optimize resource allocation to meet competing business objectives.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to define requirements and ensure seamless delivery of solutions.

Technical Direction:

  • Ensure the architectural integrity and scalability of software solutions.
  • Evaluate and approve technical designs, aligning them with strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with product owners, project managers, and technical leads to balance scope and priorities effectively.

Quality Assurance:

  • Set and maintain high standards for software quality, testing, and deployment.
  • Advocate for automation, continuous integration, and other quality-enhancing methodologies.
  • Monitor system performance, reliability, and security, addressing any identified issues swiftly.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with product management, marketing, and customer support teams to ensure alignment on goals and outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with all organizational levels, including executive leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Provide transparent updates on projects, technical challenges, and departmental strategies.

Operational Excellence and Compliance:

  • Enforce company policies and document operational processes to maintain efficiency and accountability.
  • Proactively identify and address barriers to workflow efficiency and team performance.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of employee time and maintain compliance with internal and external standards.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience leading software development teams in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands effectively.
  • Proven success in delivering enterprise-grade software solutions on time and within budget.
  • Deep understanding of modern software development methodologies, quality assurance practices, and technical architecture.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and lead diverse teams.
