The Assistant Controller provides day to day financial expertise across the organization, working closely with the Controller and other key management in supporting the strategic mission, vision, and goals of the company. The position is primarily accountable for all matters related to accounting including financial reporting, maintenance of the Company’s general ledger, and ensuring that all transactions and documentation comply with Company policy and regulated government bodies.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in property management and a deep understanding of full cycle accounting systems. This role is crucial in ensuring the efficient operation of accounting in a fast-growing company, as well as ensuring that checks and balances are in place and being adhered to. This position fully supports the accounting department and the operations teams to ensure seamlessly accurate and timely financial information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for real estate projects and portfolios.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and analyze budgets, forecasts, and financial performance reports for real estate properties and investments.
- Maintain the integrity of the financial reporting process and financial controls.
- Oversee general ledger entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes
- Payment run analysis and preparation.
- Utility management support and vendor relationship management.
- Ad hoc projects as required by management.
- Supervise accounting for rental income, leasing commissions, operating expenses, property taxes, and utility costs.
- Reconcile tenant accounts and prepare rent rolls and operating statements.
- Work closely with property managers and leasing teams to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in property management, real estate or construction.
- Education: Completion of a designation is preferred (CPA) but will also consider a candidate enrolled in the program.
- Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to function in a fast-paced deadline driven environment with a sense of urgency.
