Director of Business Development – Payments Modernization (North America)About RedCompass Labs

RedCompass Labs is a global technology consultancy specializing in payments modernization, financial messaging, and banking transformation. With teams across Europe, UK and North America, we partner with leading organisations in the payments and financial industry to deliver complex payment technology transformation programs.

As the payments ecosystem evolves toward real-time infrastructure, cloud-native platforms, and AI-enabled operations, RedCompass Labs delivers payments modernization outcomes through two complementary routes: consulting-led engagements powered by our people and AI, and AI itself with advisory support around it. We are expanding our commercial team to bring both to market effectively across North America.

We are seeking a Director of Business Development to drive new client acquisition across North America, building a strong pipeline of payments modernization opportunities and winning new long-term relationships across RedCompass Labs value propositions.

Role Overview

The Director of Business Development is responsible for originating and winning new client relationships across the North American financial services and payments ecosystem. This is a senior sales role focused on identifying high-value opportunities, building trust with new prospects from the ground up, and leading the full enterprise sales cycle through to close.

The role requires a commercially sharp, consultative approach, able to position RedCompass Labs' unique combination of payments expertise and AI compellingly to new buyers, and to select the right commercial model for each opportunity.

The DDirector of Business Development will work closely with internal teams, including pre-sales, delivery, resourcing, and product, to ensure every client opportunity is shaped into a solution that is both commercially compelling and operationally credible. Once a new client relationship is established and an initial engagement is underway, account ownership transitions to the Strategic Account Director. The Director of Business Development remains focused entirely on net new pipeline generation and conversion.

Key ResponsibilitiesNew Business Development

  • Identify and pursue new client opportunities across the North American financial services and payments ecosystem, across RedCompass Labs value propositions
  • Work closely with the Commercial leadership team to define and execute a shared target acquisition strategy, ensuring North America activity is aligned to global commercial priorities and coordinated across geographies
  • Develop and execute a territory strategy for North America in collaboration with Commercial leadership team, identifying priority segments, target institutions, and the most effective routes to first engagement
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified new business opportunities, with accurate and disciplined forecasting maintained in CRM systems
  • Lead the full enterprise sales cycle from initial outreach and engagement through to proposal development, negotiation, and contract execution
  • Position RedCompass Labs AI as either an accelerator of consulting outcomes or as a primary offering with advisory support, depending on client need, and pursue opportunities through both routes
  • Identify and develop opportunities where a new client engagement in one commercial model can evolve into the other, and actively pursue both pathways

Prospect Engagement & Pipeline Generation

  • Develop a deep understanding of the North American payments modernization landscape, including key institutions, active transformation programmes, regulatory drivers, and competitive dynamics
  • Build a high-quality network of prospect contacts across target financial institutions, proactively generating meetings, introductions, and first conversations
  • Monitor industry trends and use insight to identify and frame timely, relevant outreach to new prospects
  • Develop targeted outreach strategies for priority segments and accounts, working with marketing and the CCO to maximise pipeline conversion from campaigns and events
  • Represent RedCompass Labs at industry events, conferences, and client forums to build market presence and generate new opportunities

Executive Client Leadership

  • Build initial relationships with C-suite and senior leadership stakeholders, CIOs, CTOs, Heads of Payments, Transformation Leaders, at target prospect organisations
  • Represent RedCompass Labs in early-stage executive discussions around payments transformation, AI, technology strategy, and operational modernization
  • Help prospective clients frame and articulate their payments modernization challenge, positioning RedCompass Labs as the right partner to solve it, through AI led payments modernization
  • Help clients navigate complex industry changes including real-time payments adoption, regulatory transformation, and AI-enabled operations

Solution Development & Commercial Collaboration

  • Partner closely with pre-sales, delivery, resourcing, and product teams from early in the sales cycle to ensure solutions are well-scoped, deliverable, and aligned to RedCompass Labs' current capabilities and capacity
  • Engage pre-sales specialists to shape and strengthen client-facing demonstrations, proposals, and value articulation, particularly for AI opportunities
  • Work with resourcing and delivery leadership to sense-check commercial commitments before proposals are finalised, ensuring the business can stand behind what is being sold
  • Support the development of compelling proposals, statements of work, and commercial models aligned to the global commercial framework
  • Position RedCompass Labs' unique combination of deep payments expertise and AI as a strategic differentiator

Handover & Commercial Collaboration

  • Manage a clean, well-documented handover of newly won client relationships to the Director, Strategic Accounts once an initial engagement is underway, ensuring continuity of relationship and context
  • Work collaboratively with the Director, Strategic Accounts to ensure commercial momentum is maintained through the transition from new business to account management
  • Contribute new business intelligence, market insight, and prospect feedback to the broader commercial team on an ongoing basis

What You Bring:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in enterprise sales, business development, or new logo acquisition gathered from one or more following sectors: Payments or financial messaging / Banking technology / financial services consulting / Fintech or enterprise software
  • Proven track record of winning new clients in complex, consultative sales environments within financial services
  • Demonstrated ability to build executive relationships from cold and navigate multi-stakeholder enterprise buying cycles through to close
  • Strong understanding of the payments ecosystem, including payment modernization, financial messaging, and emerging technologies
  • Ability to sell across consulting and technology product commercial models, navigating different buyer personas within the same target institution
  • Comfortable holding and communicating a converged commercial narrative - that RedCompass Labs delivers payments modernization outcomes through consulting, through product, or both

Skills & Competencies

  • Hunter mindset - energised by new logo acquisition, pipeline generation, and the challenge of breaking into new accounts
  • Strategic, consultative sales approach - outcome-first, not solution-first
  • Strong executive presence and relationship-building capability with new contacts
  • Experience navigating complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise buying cycles
  • Ability to translate both consulting and product propositions into clear business value for payments and transformation buyers
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Commercially disciplined - strong forecasting accuracy and CRM hygiene
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; other languages a bonus
  • Willingness to travel within North America and occasionally to Europe
