PGL Environmental Consultants (PGL) is seeking a Junior or Intermediate EIA Specialist located in Vancouver or Langley, BC, who can help our team and our clients make informed decisions on multi-disciplinary issues. We are seeking an individual with a confident background in one or more disciplines used in Environmental Impact Assessment (inclusive of natural resources, human environment, and policy). Most importantly, we want someone who can apply their own expertise and integrate expertise of others to support collaborative decisions. The person hired for this role will support PGL’s diverse client base which includes Indigenous communities, government, urban developers, and industry. Our immediate needs are mainly with our Indigenous clients as they engage on major projects through Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) processes. Depending on your interests and client needs, you may also become involved in government-to-government negotiations, technical working groups, resource management planning, land use studies, socio-cultural studies, policy development, and community-based monitoring programs. ResponsibilitiesThe Successful Candidate Will

  • Contribute subject matter expertise to support clients in federal/provincial technical committees and environmental review processes.
  • Participate, with emphasis on evidence-based decision making, in applied data gathering or literature reviews for well-being of individual, families, or cultural topics. .
  • Contribute as an author to multiple documents (memos, reports, management plans, briefing notes, workshop proceedings, etc.) for multiple audiences (coworkers, regulators, client, or public).
  • Attend and support muti-party meetings in various ways, including through maintaining records and tracking and coordinating action items.
  • Support project managers as needed with task coordination.
  • Contribute to internal process improvements, technical protocols, and team development.
  • Be able to participate in various types of environmental consulting projects as appropriate to the level of experience.

Job Requirements

  • 3-7 years of experience working in professional capacity;
  • Consulting skills that include: time management, teamwork, client service, communicating technical information in an understandable way (verbal and written), multi-tasking and people skills, meeting facilitation (agenda, minutes, briefing notes)
  • Technical skills or qualifications (to include some or all of the following):
  • A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree is an asset) that is related to environmental planning or resource management. Comparable lived experience will be considered;
  • Capable of interpreting and distilling multi-disciplinary technical reports;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Rights within the context of the Canadian resource economy;
  • Experience or aptitude in EIA process and methods in Canada;
  • Knowledge or aptitude to learn environmental and land use policies and regulations for development in Canada;
  • Experience collecting and working with Indigenous Knowledge and Indigenous land use information, understanding the context of western scientific disciplines, and supporting Indigenous decision making;
  • Experience conducting environmental, socioeconomic, or cultural studies following professional standards of practices;
  • Experience with using spatial data (GIS) for decision-making;
  • Excellent client service and networking skills an asset; and
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Other strengths:
  • Inter-cultural sensitivity training (ideal, but will provide);
  • Professional accreditation is desirable, if applicable to your field;
  • Willingness to travel to our clients’ communities to conduct work as needed;
  • First aid certification (ideal, but will provide);
