About Pacific Blue Cross Pacific Blue Cross (PBC) has been British Columbia's leading benefits provider for over 80 years. We are an independent, not-for-profit society with strong roots in BC’s health care system. We provide health, dental, life, disability, and travel coverage to 1 in 3 British Columbians through employee group plans and individual plans. We are fueled by a commitment to keep health care sustainable for all British Columbians. Through our PBC Health Foundation, we fund projects that improve health outcomes directly related to mental health and wellbeing as well as the prevention and/or management of chronic disease. We are interested in finding people who want to make a difference and who are looking to grow their career with us. We offer an attractive compensation and benefits package. Our workplace culture values health and wellness, diversity and equality, continuing education, environmental sustainability and giving back to the community. Perks

  • Flexible working hours of 7.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday (i.e., 37.5 hours per week).
  • Paid vacation starts at 4 weeks per year, and increases with years of service.
  • Hybrid work environment (i.e., a combination of work from office and work from home days).
  • Generous benefits, including extended health, dental, and life insurance; depending on the plan that you choose, these benefit premiums can be 100% paid by PBC.
  • PBC contributes the equivalent of 8% of your base salary to a Defined Contribution pension plan. No employee contribution or matching is required, giving you more take-home pay.
  • Retiree Benefits plan that is available to employees who have at least 10 years of service with PBC and have reached the age of 55.
  • Onsite gym, cafeteria, and access to virtual doctors/counsellors 24/7 via our Employee Family Assistance Program!

About The Position

  • We are searching for a permanent Software Architect to join our Information and Technology Services team.
  • PBC’s compensation program is built on a pay-for-performance philosophy, rewarding both individual and organizational achievements. The typical hiring range for this position is $100,000 - $125,000 per year, with the starting salary determined based on a combination of skills, education, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, you’ll be eligible for our annual bonus program.

If you’re someone wanting to operate at the intersection of business strategy and technical execution, and are wanting to take on a great career opportunity with a local not-for-profit health insurance provider by influencing solution direction early, help teams make sound architectural choices, and ensure systems are designed with longevity, security, and operational excellence in mind, we want to hear from you. Your ability to think broadly about systems while remaining closely connected to delivery teams and real-world outcomes will help you succeed in this role. You will contribute architectural leadership that enables sustainable healthcare by shaping solutions across technology, information, and business domains, ensuring they are resilient, secure, and designed for long-term value. We offer an attractive compensation and benefits package. This role is currently working hybrid from home and from our head office in Burnaby, BC. Apply this week if you would like to take on this role. Key Ways This Position Makes An Impact In this role, your impact comes from shaping better outcomes, not just better designs. You will influence how solutions are conceived, built, and sustained across the organization. As a Software Architect, you’ll shape solution direction early by helping teams and stakeholders explore options, trade-offs, and architectural approaches that balance business needs and technical sustainability. This role enables delivery teams to move faster and with greater confidence by providing clear architectural guidance, patterns, and decision support. You’ll improve solution quality by embedding non-functional considerations such as security, privacy, resilience, performance, and operability into designs from the outset. The architect reduces long-term risk and rework by identifying architectural gaps, dependencies, and constraints before they impact delivery. In this role, you’ll promote consistency and reuse across solutions by contributing to shared standards, reference architectures, and architectural decision records. The Software Architect supports informed technology choices by evaluating platforms, frameworks, and emerging technologies where they can add meaningful value. You’ll strengthen collaboration across business, product, and engineering teams by acting as a trusted advisor and architectural partner. In this role, you’ll contribute to a culture of intentional architecture, where design decisions are transparent, pragmatic, and aligned with long-term organizational goals. Key Experiences You Bring To This Role

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with a major in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
  • 5 – 8 years of experience in architecture design, development, and deployment, experience in infrastructure planning and operations, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative Agile environment.
  • Expertise in one or more Microsoft technologies like C#/.NET, MS SQL Server, Office 365, SharePoint and Dynamics CRM.
  • Experience with Azure Public Cloud.
  • Experience with Architectural Frameworks (RUP 4+1 / TOGAF).
  • Knowledge of architectural and software design patterns, enterprise integration patterns, service-oriented architecture.
  • Knowledge of Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and NoSQL.
