Job Description

Posted on: December 30, 2025

Location: Remote (Canada preferred)

Studio: Only By Midnight Ltd.

About Us

Only By Midnight is an indie video game studio based in Edmonton, Alberta. We develop story-rich games that mix technical innovation with dramatic visuals. We’ve released two games to market (Curved Space and Ctrl Alt Deal) and we are currently working on our next exciting project. We’re a small, creative team looking for someone who shares our drive to make exceptional games and who’s ready to take charge of how our games find their fans.

The Role

We’re looking for a Marketing Coordinator who is equal parts strategist, trend-watcher, and hands-on executor to shape and drive the marketing direction for our current and upcoming titles. This isn’t a “create three tweets a day” position; it’s a leadership role for someone who groks indie games, sees opportunities before they’re obvious, and confidently turns their insights into action.

You’ll design and deliver campaigns that reach existing and potential players, test your ideas, and iterate. You’ll manage festival submissions and participation, validate concepts, and champion our games across platforms. When you see a chance to make something great happen, you don’t wait for six people to sign off. You have the confidence and drive to make it happen.

Beyond executing campaigns, you’ll also help shape our creative direction. You’ll research player behaviors and preferences, bring current trend insights to the table, and help us answer foundational design questions—like “how long should the game be?” or “what themes are resonating right now?” or “what if we made the main character a dinosaur instead?” Your input will guide both marketing and creative decisions, ensuring our projects connect deeply with the players we want to reach.

What You’ll Do

  • Own our marketing strategy: Research trends, identify opportunities, and take ownership on approved strategies, whether that’s a social media campaign, a blog exchange, a festival appearance, or something completely out of the box.
  • Test and validate concepts: A/B test key art, taglines, and store pages; gather and interpret data; keep abreast of current trends.
  • Contribute to creative direction: Bring market insights and player trends to development discussions, helping the team make informed creative choices about tone, themes, scope, and audience appeal.
  • Create and coordinate assets: Write sharp, engaging copy; prepare visuals and short videos for store pages, trailers, and event submissions that conform to our internal art standards.
  • Plan and lead festival campaigns: Manage digital and in-person festival submissions (Steam, Nintendo, etc.), build schedules, and ensure our presence stands out.
  • Manage our storefronts: Oversee Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo pages, keeping them current, optimized, and brand aligned.
  • Collaborate cross-discipline: Work closely with design, art, and production teams to align marketing beats with development milestones.

You Are

  • Deeply familiar with the indie game scene and current marketing trends.
  • A self-starter who thrives on autonomy and accountability.
  • Confident presenting strategies and defending creative decisions.
  • Excited to experiment, learn fast, and share new ideas.
  • Passionate about connecting players and stories in meaningful ways.

Must Have

  • Proven track record in strategizing and executing indie game marketing initiatives.
  • Polished writing skills, with a keen sense of tone, clarity, and audience.
  • Professional-level familiarity with basic image editing (e.g., Canva, Photoshop).
  • Experience with distribution backends (Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo).
  • Video game festival application and management experience (digital and/or inperson).
  • Experience in tracking and analyzing marketing data (e.g., Google Analytics, UTM parameters).
  • Understanding of major social media channels, including strengths, weaknesses, audience demographics, and best practices.

Bonus Points For

  • Console marketing experience (Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox).
  • Comfort on camera or at events representing the studio.
  • Experience with Canadian funding programs (e.g., CMF).
  • French language skills.
  • Experience with WordPress.

Why Join Us

You’ll have creative ownership and the chance to make a real impact on how our games reach players. You’ll be part of a small, senior team that values initiative, trust, and collaboration. We move fast, communicate openly, and celebrate smart risks.

If you’re the kind of person who messages your team because you had a great new idea for boosting Steam reviews and you just need the green light to go ahead, we want to hear from you.
