Company Description

NULIFE GreenTech is a Canadian climate-tech company delivering permanent, Isometric-verified carbon removal through hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL), a form of biomass carbon removal and storage (BiCRS). We convert underutilized biomass feedstocks — including organic by-products, crop residues, and waste biomass — into carbon-rich biocrude for permanent geological storage.

Our first commercial HTL facility operates in Saskatoon, Canada. NULIFE’s modular design will be deployed at additional sites near major feedstock sources, enabling a growing network of facilities that deliver permanent carbon removal close to biomass supply.

Objective and Scope:

The Facilities Engineer will play a key role in executing the design, integration, construction, and commissioning of a new greenfield facility in the Saskatoon area. This site will process 35,000 dry tonnes of biomass annually and produce approximately 250 barrels per day of biocrude, positioning it among the largest commercial HTL facilities globally.

This role is both technical and strategic. You will lead capital development efforts, integrate multidisciplinary systems (agricultural processing, industrial heat-and-pressure systems, and oil-and-gas-style facilities), and provide technical support from build through to operations. This position is also central to succession planning and strengthening the engineering bench as the company continues to scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, integration, and construction of a new large-scale HTL facility
  • Execute capital project development from detailed design through commissioning
  • Integrate agricultural feedstock handling systems with high-pressure industrial and oil & gas-style process systems
  • Size, specify, and procure major and auxiliary equipment
  • Develop and review block flow diagrams, PFDs, P&IDs, and detailed piping designs
  • Ensure compliance with ASME codes and TSask requirements
  • Lead and coordinate third-party engineering partners (including EPC support)
  • Support regulatory application processes (TSask, Ministry of Environment, local RM)
  • Manage project scheduling, cost control, and contractor performance
  • Support commissioning activities and transition to full operations
  • Provide ongoing technical support to operations for optimization and troubleshooting
  • Mentor junior engineering team members (EIT and graduate engineers)
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards and internal technical capability

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • 7 plus years of experience as a Facilities or Mechanical Engineer with a focus on piping system design and installation
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada (Saskatchewan or eligible for registration)
  • Working knowledge of ASME code and TSask regulations
  • Demonstrated experience in oil & gas or comparable high-pressure industrial facilities
  • Proven project management capability, including scheduling, budgeting, and contractor coordination
  • Experience operating in dynamic, fast-paced environments with evolving scope
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines

Skills and Competencies:

  • Resilience – comfortable working in fluid environments with the ability to navigate ambiguity
  • Adaptability – thrives in an environment where scope evolves and priorities shift
  • Problem-solving – strong multi-disciplinary troubleshooting capability
  • Accountability – takes ownership;
  • Business acumen – understands the technical and commercial implications of decisions
  • Leadership presence – able to mentor and influence without formal authority
  • Cultural fit – collaborative, humble, hands-on; thrives on small teams and motivated by building something meaningful

Assets:

  • Experience in hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) or biomass processing
  • Oil & gas battery or high-pressure thermal system experience
  • Experience working with EPC firms and regulatory bodies
  • Project development experience in greenfield industrial builds
  • Project management certification (nice to have, not required)
