New Value Solutions, a national IT consulting company, is seeking a Technology Head for one of our established clients in the electrical and industrial automation sector based in Winnipeg, MB. This leadership role reporting to the COO and will be responsible for spearheading innovation and guiding product development initiatives across hardware, firmware, and software domains.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical acumen in power systems engineering and a proven ability to align product vision with market and customer needs. You will collaborate across departments to drive new product initiatives while enhancing existing technologies to maintain competitiveness in a rapidly evolving industry.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Sales, Applications Engineering, and Product Management to define product direction based on market trends and industry innovation.
- Drive conceptualization, feasibility analysis, and technical definition of multi-disciplinary product development projects.
- Oversee the evolution and upkeep of existing product lines to meet industry standards and technological advancements.
- Define technical project scope, goals, and deliverables that align with broader business strategies.
- Act as a key stakeholder throughout product development, ensuring timely and strategic delivery of product features.
- Estimate and secure necessary resources, including budget, personnel, and technical skillsets, for successful execution of development initiatives.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire technical teams, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships essential to the success of technology-driven projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 7–15 years of total experience in technology/product development, particularly within the power systems or electrical manufacturing sector.
- Minimum of 3–5 years in a technical leadership or managerial capacity.
- In-depth knowledge of power systems, including substation automation and protective relays.
- Experience in embedded systems development (firmware and hardware).
- Proficiency with SCADA systems and protocols such as IEC 61850.
- Strong leadership, team-building, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to define long-term product and technology roadmaps aligned with market needs and regulatory changes (e.g., NERC, IEEE, IEC).
- Identify opportunities for innovation—such as integrating AI/ML for fault detection or predictive maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical insights into business and product outcomes.
