The Shift Coordinator actively engages and participates in the security service delivery of all services supporting staff and clinical safety at Mount Sinai Hospital. They are responsible for guiding the delivery of security services in support of all person(s) effected during urgent / critical events; ensuring security staff perform their duties in accordance with organizational and the department policies and procedures. The Shift Coordinator works collaboratively with all Sinai Health internal/external stakeholders and department leadership the Security Supervisor will support both short & long term departmental goals, investigate service inefficiencies and implement improvements under the direction of Security leadership. In This Role You Will

  • Support Clinical Operations and delivery of patient care through active participation in security service delivery to urgent / critical events; engaging with key internal stakeholders and contracted security staff to provide front-line guidance / leadership and ensure quality service delivery
  • Actively participate in / provide direction to staff during emergency situations. Ensuring all emergency situations are properly documented and provide follow up as may be necessary
  • Participate in unit-level Patient Care Plan development. Formulating strategies /assigning resources as necessary in collaboration with unit leadership to support a safe care environment
  • Maintain operational knowledge on all fire alarm / suppression systems – assisting in recovery / remediation from fire alarm events where needed. Leveraging system knowledge in support of Spiritual Care and Indigenous Reconciliation efforts; generating Hot Work Permit(s) and deactivating necessary devices to facilitate smudging practices
  • Maintain security related database(s). Engaging with unit-level staff / leadership and oversee necessary dissemination of information permitted through PHIPA in support of staff safety and continuing hospital operations
  • Conduct / participate in in-depth investigations or audits within the Hospital and outside facilities as requested by the Director, Security, Fire & Life Safety(or delegate)
  • Oversee / monitor appropriate allocation of security resource when providing patient watch / constant observation services in the Emergency Department and on in- patient units. Auditing the program and adherence to service standard(s) accordingly; correcting as necessary.
  • Maintain and ensure appropriate delivery/completion of administrative processes supporting other interdisciplinary teams within the organization cross-campus. Working continuously in collaboratively with all Sinai Health staff and stakeholders to develop, define, and improve these process in support of business operations – escalating concerns and addressing as necessary
  • Participate in and provide ongoing support of all organizational programs to minimize staff risk of workplace violence. Maintain, monitor, audit, and correct as necessary Sinai Health’s programs in accordance with Bill 168 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Monitor, audit, and ensure appropriate actioning of issues pertaining to Sinai Health property, equipment, and consumables required to maintain security operations and a safe care environment
  • Provide ongoing supervision, leadership, orientation and training to our contracted security service provider. Maintaining supportive open lines of communication to encourage goodwill and morale within the department; encouraging staff in the performance of their duties to provide ongoing quality service.
  • Oversee the orientation of new contracted security staff to site ensuring to collect appropriate attestation of items outlined within the service provider’s contract compliance schedule
  • Participate in Policy / Process Development within the department and other stakeholders as instructed
  • Disseminate operational information / updates from Sinai Leadership among contracted service staff in support on ongoing security operations
  • Facilitate regular reporting / audit cycles; performing statistical analysis of incident reporting trends in support of continuing service transparency, quality improvement, and adherence to best practices / regulatory mandate(s). Investigate inefficiencies where identified and participating in quality improvements projects
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required

Job Requirements Mandatory

  • Successful completion of a generalist Community College Diploma (3 year program) or equivalent
  • 3 years of experience in Incident/Emergency Management, emergency preparedness programs, formation of complex problem solving strategies and work plans, etc.
  • Valid Ontario Security Guard License and valid Emergency First Aid Level-C certification
  • Emergency Management Certificate or Equivalent
  • Applicants with proven equivalent and related training and experience may also be considered

Preferred

  • Certification within the International Association of Healthcare Safety & Security (IAHSS)

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and best practices
  • Proficient with MS Office: advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Proven interpersonal and relationship building skills; professional, diplomatic and confident with a proven ability to work with individuals across all levels of the organization and external stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to clearly define and articulate requirements, priorities, impacts, and solutions
  • Flexible with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multitasking and dynamic environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands and changing priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and customer service
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
