The services, facilities, programming and expertise available in the Library support innovative teaching, learning, and scholarship across campus. The Library includes the Archives and Special Collections, and specialized and technology-enriched teaching and learning spaces, including information literacy classrooms, a Maker Studio, audio production rooms and a range of visualization, simulation and immersive spaces. The Library team consists of approximately 60 employees. About The Role MRU Library is seeking a Team Lead, Public Services to oversee and coordinate the effective operation of the Library’s Public Service operations including the Library Service Desk and virtual chat services and support, and the library’s public spaces. Working collaboratively with other members of the Public Services leadership team, the Team Lead directs and provides expertise to the team to provide excellent academic library support and services to students, faculty and employees. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and collaborative skills and a strong user-centered focus. They will be experienced in delivering exceptional user services in the context of a rapidly changing environment. The successful candidate will actively support and contribute to MRU Library’s ongoing efforts towards Indigenous reconciliation and diversity, equity, justice, inclusion and accessibility. They will be energized by the work of overseeing and coordinating services, spaces and supports that inspire creativity and learning. This 6-month term position is full-time (35 hours per week on-campus, working Monday to Friday). Note: There is a strong internal candidate for this position.Responsibilities

  • Oversees day-to-day operations of the Service Desk, ensuring adequate staffing levels and supply resources are available for the Service Desk, Printing and Group Rooms.
  • Leads problem solving processes to facilitate service desk teams to resolve situations and address any issues of daily operations, including in-person and virtual support systems.
  • Designs and provides training to the team on updates, changes, or new initiatives.
  • Coaches and mentors Public Services staff, including providing information, staff support, coaching and informal feedback to ensure that learners are being supported.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with library users, other Library units such as Maker and Media Commons, University Archives, Collections and Metadata and employees in other University divisions where work intersects such as Security Services, Facilities Management, or Student Learning Services.
  • Coordinates work planning, project assignment and project management for Library Public Services staff.
  • Analyzes service and workflow data of public services including reporting of virtual chat and service desk statistics and makes recommendations on any service adjustments as a result of the analysis.
  • Provides one-to-one instruction and assistance to Library users, in virtual and physical environments, to help them effectively access and use print and electronic resources to meet their information needs

Qualifications

  • 3-4 year Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • The candidate should have at least 3-5 years in Public Services work at a service point in an academic library
  • Leadership and supervisory skills
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • The Team Lead must possess a user-focused and results-oriented approach to managing conflicting priorities, competing user needs, and operating in a high-paced environment while collaborating within and across teams to implement support and solutions
