Position Description The Welding Technical Trainer develops and delivers training for welding, fabrication, and operations employees. This role ensures staff are equipped with the welding knowledge, SOP understanding, and safety competency required for consistent, high-quality, and safe fabrication and repair work. Fully onsite and hands-on, this role supports Modine’s strong health and safety culture and is ideal for experienced employees who are passionate about developing others. Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver welding training programs using classroom instruction, hands-on exercises, and competency-based assessments.
- Develop and maintain training materials including manuals, presentations, SOPs, JHAs, weld procedures, and demonstrations.
- Provide required welding and fabrication safety training, including hot work safety, PPE requirements, fire prevention, ventilation, hazard recognition, and safe equipment use.
- Train employees on welding standards, procedures, and best practices, including interpretation of welding symbols, blueprints, and fabrication drawings.
- Train employees on multiple welding processes as applicable (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Cored), including proper setup, parameters, and technique.
- Coach employees directly on the production floor to ensure correct application of welding techniques and adherence to quality and safety requirements.
- Support troubleshooting of welding defects and fabrication issues to improve quality, consistency, and productivity.
- Provide hands-on guidance related to weld quality issues such as porosity, cracking, distortion, lack of fusion, and improper penetration.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Safety, Quality, and Operations to ensure training reflects current welding procedures, materials, and equipment requirements.
- Support standardization of welding procedures, techniques, and documentation across shifts and teams.
- Conduct competency checks, weld tests, and evaluations to confirm readiness for independent work.
- Maintain accurate records of training attendance, weld qualifications, assessments, certifications, and compliance.
- Update training content when materials, equipment, processes, or quality and safety findings change.
- Gather feedback from trainees and stakeholders to continuously improve training effectiveness.
Required Education & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 5 years of welding or fabrication experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, equipment, materials, and fabrication techniques.
- Demonstrated coaching or training ability in a manufacturing environment.
- Solid understanding of welding safety standards and quality requirements.
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
