Employment Opportunity: Youth Outreach Worker Location: Halifax, NS **Salary Range: $**55, 000.00 per year (Local travel will be required) Employment Term: Full time hours (35 hours/ week with varied shifts day, evening and weekends) August 2025 - March 31st 2026 (Possibility of Renewal) General Description Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre is centrally located in the urban Indigenous community of Halifax and is looking for One (1) Youth Outreach Worker. This position will be full-time hours and will be required to work evening and weekend shifts depending on client needs. The Youth Outreach Worker will work in tandem with all programs and services offered at the MNFC. This position will be focused on improving immediate and long term social, educational/ vocational, economic and health outcomes for vulnerable Youth between the ages of 12 to 18 and 18-24 years who are facing multiple barriers. Focused Areas Drop in, crisis management, supportive guidance, programs/ workshops, referrals/ linkages, accompaniment and outreach. General Competencies Strengths-Based, Safe and Supportive Environment, Youth Centered, Harm Reduction Approach, Experiential Learning, Relationship-based, Leadership Development, Culturally Competent, Holistic Approach, Community-Development. Key Responsibilities We are looking for an individual to perform the following duties:

  • Develop and implement creative strategies to meet and reach out to vulnerable Youth in the community;
  • Networking and building partnerships with programs, services and respected leaders (Elders) in the community;
  • Work individually with Youth to identify strengths, resources and areas for development
  • Working individually with Youth to develop a holistic support plans
  • Developing opportunities for Youth, providing access to workshops as a way to promote the holistic development of Youth; either through direct facilitation or partnering with other service providers;
  • Make referrals and linkages for Youth to other formal/ informal supports and services
  • Document work, record progress and support work with Youth as well as statistical information for the project;
  • General administrative tasks; filing and report writing (ensure all reports are in on time)
  • Advocate for individual Youth in accessing supports and services and their development
  • Participate in regular, weekly supervision and informal debriefs
  • Participate in case conferencing which includes Youth client and other service providers
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development
  • MNFC Data base system tracking and reporting of accurate information
  • Adhere to all Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre policies and practices

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in social sciences (Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Human Services, Recreation etc.);
  • Comprehensive understanding of Indigenous communities, family, cultural, social and historical factors and its impact on youth development
  • Two or more years’ experience working with Youth in a community- based setting; personal live experiences are a definite asset;
  • Knowledge and experience in supporting Youth in setting personal goals through supportive, collaborative and solution-focused conversations
  • Knowledge of youth/ family/ community resources, programs and services within community
  • Demonstration of experience in working from a strengths-based and relationship-based perspective
  • Creative, adventurous and demonstrates knowledge of community and trends pertaining to Youth
  • Experience with Case notation, reports and case management practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable means of transportation (must own a working vehicle)
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (word, excel, outlook, access, power point)
  • Required Vulnerable Sector Check & Child Abuse Registrar must be provided prior to start of position
  • Indigenous ancestry is an asset, please self identify
