Project Manager (IT) – Senior (12 month contract) Location: Edmonton, AB/ Remote Staffing Placement OpportunityProject Overview A large public sector organization is implementing modernization initiatives aimed at improving digital services and operational infrastructure within correctional facilities. These initiatives focus on enhancing secure communications, improving connectivity, and supporting modern digital operations across facilities. An experienced Project Manager is required to provide leadership and coordination across two active implementation projects. The successful candidate will ensure project continuity, oversee final deployment phases, and support successful delivery in collaboration with internal stakeholders, technical teams, and external vendors. Project 1: Video Visitation Implementation The Video Visitation Service (VVS) project is a multi-phase modernization initiative designed to provide secure and reliable video visitation capabilities for individuals in custody. The solution enables safe and efficient virtual connections with family members, friends, and professional visitors through a secure internet-based platform. The system is currently operational at one correctional facility and is entering its final phase of implementation. An existing Project Manager is currently supporting the initiative, and this role will ensure continuity of leadership through the final implementation stage. The Project Manager will collaborate with operational leadership, subject matter experts, technology teams, and external vendors to ensure successful completion and alignment with organizational standards and public safety requirements. Project 2: Correctional Facilities Wi-Fi Implementation This project supports the implementation of secure Wi-Fi services across correctional facilities to enable modern digital operations and improve operational efficiency. Deployments have been completed in most facilities, with only two locations remaining in the final implementation stage. The project focuses on establishing a secure and consistent connectivity foundation that supports operational systems and digital services used by correctional staff and partner organizations. The Project Manager will collaborate with operational teams, technical stakeholders, vendors, and partner organizations to complete the remaining deployments and ensure alignment with security, operational, and technology standards. Limited travel may be required to support implementation activities and stakeholder engagement at facility locations. Key Responsibilities The Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating and delivering IT projects from initiation through completion, ensuring timelines, scope, and project objectives are achieved. Responsibilities Include

  • Develop project charters and business/project plans to support project delivery and ensure alignment with business objectives and data integrity.
  • Manage projects that document business requirements and deliver IT solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Develop recommendations including resource requirements, dependencies, policy considerations, and delivery methodologies.
  • Prepare and present project deliverables to internal teams, steering committees, and project stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple projects, project resources, and governance structures.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with project teams, vendors, and cross-department stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective project communication throughout the project lifecycle, including risk escalation when required.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and ensure high levels of stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with business and IT leadership to develop detailed project plans outlining scope, objectives, timelines, risks, benefits, and budgets.
  • Establish clear project governance structures with defined roles and responsibilities.
  • Monitor and report project status against milestones, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Identify and manage risks and issues, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Develop project schedules, estimate resource requirements, and monitor project progress.
  • Provide guidance and direction to project team members to ensure timely completion of project tasks.
  • Develop supporting documentation such as requirements documents and project artifacts.
  • Evaluate project outcomes in collaboration with project sponsors and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support change management and communication initiatives across project teams.
  • Follow established project management standards and collaborate with the project management office to refine standards when needed.

Mandatory QualificationsEducationThe Proposed Resource Must Meet One Of The Following

  • University degree in business, management, or a related discipline with 4 years of project management experience, OR
  • Two-year diploma in business, management, or a related discipline with 6 years of project management experience, OR
  • One-year certificate in business, management, or a related discipline with 7 years of project management experience, OR
  • 8 years of project management experience.

Required Experience

  • Experience defining project scope and goals in collaboration with business stakeholders – 6 years
  • Experience developing project deliverables such as project charters, business cases, briefing notes, status reports, risk logs, dashboards, and project closure reports – 8 years
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently – 8 years

Desired Skills And Experience

  • Experience conducting and facilitating impact and risk assessments across multiple scenarios – 8 years
  • Experience coordinating large-scale information management or information technology initiatives involving vendors and multiple stakeholders – 3 years
  • Experience leading and facilitating meetings with stakeholders at all organizational levels – 8 years
  • Experience leading change management and communication planning – 8 years
  • Experience overseeing and implementing multi-phase Video Visitation Service projects – 2 years
  • Experience overseeing and implementing multi-phase Wi-Fi implementation projects – 2 years
  • Experience providing leadership with strong understanding of stakeholder environments, business functions, and information requirements – 5 years
  • Experience working in large public sector organizations or similarly complex environments in Canada – 3 years
