The Opportunity: Manager, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Regulatory Affairs
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as the Manager of Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), and Regulatory Affairs. This pivotal role will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).
The successful candidate will grow to become a foundational leader responsible for establishing, developing, and overseeing all QA, QC, and regulatory functions within Maia Farms. This mandate is critical to ensuring that our ingredients consistently meet the highest global standards for food safety, quality, and compliance. This role requires an agile manager who can build robust systems and maintain a culture of adherence to regulatory requirements across the entire organization.

About the Role
The manager of QA/QC and Regulatory Affairs will:
- Lead all quality assurance, quality control, and regulatory functions for our ingredients.
- Ensure that all products meet food safety, quality, and compliance standards across global markets.
- Develop and oversee systems to maintain regulatory compliance, drive certification initiatives, and guide product approvals in Canada, the United States, the European Union, and Asia Pacific.
Knowledge, Skills & ExperienceQuality Assurance & Quality Control
- Manage the company’s QA/QC systems across all co-manufacturing sites, including supplier quality programs, sanitation, and environmental monitoring to align with sustainable manufacturing goals.
- Oversee food safety programs (HACCP, GMP, GFSI, FSMA, CFIA, etc.) and ensure ongoing audit readiness.
- Develop and maintain SOPs for raw material inspection, in-process testing, and finished product release.
- Monitor product quality metrics and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions for deviations and customer complaints.
- Oversee third-party QC laboratory activities, analytical testing methods, and validation protocols.
Regulatory Affairs
- Support regulatory strategy and submissions for novel food ingredients in target markets (Health Canada, FDA, EFSA, FSSAI, MHLW).
- Support GRAS, Novel Food, and other global dossier preparation and submissions.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of food regulations, labeling, and ingredient standards.
- Work with Innovation and Sales teams to ensure all claims and formulations meet compliance standards.
- Lead crisis response, including recalls and post-approval monitoring, while ensuring compliance in regulatory filings.
- Coordinate with third-party consultants and regulatory agencies as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in QA/QC and Regulatory Affairs in food ingredients, food tech, or nutraceuticals.
- Certifications such as PCQI, ASQ Certified Quality Auditor, or experience with QMS software (e.g., TraceGains) are an asset.
- Motivated to unlock functional ingredients in the market in multiple jurisdictions.
- Deep understanding of food safety standards (HACCP, FSMA, GFSI, CFIA).
- Experience with GRAS, Novel Food, or similar approval pathways.
- Emerging leader with excellent documentation and cross-functional communication skills.
Compensation for this role is $60,000-$80,000 annually, based on experience and demonstrated capability. In addition to base salary, Maia Farms offers benefits and other rewards aligned with the role and level of responsibility.
Location & Work Structure
Maia Farms’ headquarter is in Vancouver, BC. This position is in-office.
