Job Description

Posted on: May 21, 2025

Imagine working at the heart of Saskatchewan’s democratic process, where your financial expertise doesn’t just serve an organization—it sustains a parliamentary institution. Based in the historic Legislative Building in beautiful Wascana Park, this role offers the chance to grow, evolve, and contribute to something bigger. The LAS is dedicated to enhancing parliamentary democracy by providing impartial, non-partisan support to the Legislative Assembly. Our mission is to foster a transparent, participatory democracy with a team committed to supporting the institution of Parliament for the people of Saskatchewan.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Financial Services, the Senior Financial Analyst oversees day-to-day financial operations, ensuring compliance and fiscal accountability, and supports strategic decision-making. This role manages procurement, asset management, expenditure control, accounts payable, revenue, contract management, and reporting. It also provides financial guidance and supports the forecasting process.

What You’ll Do:

·       Oversee financial processes, including procurement, asset management, accounts payable, revenue, expenditure control and internal/external reporting, ensuring compliance with policies and controls.

·       Manage the purchase card program and maintain fiscal accountability.

·       Support expense forecasting in order to analyze financial trends.

·       Provide financial guidance to Officers of the Legislative Assembly on appropriation control, financial policies and accounting procedures.

·       Act as primary liaison with the provincial auditor and coordinate audit requirements.

·       Lead year-end accounting processes and financial reporting.

·       Assist in updating and monitoring financial policies and ensuring compliance.

·       Review financial reconciliations.

·       Manage and maintain the chart of accounts, overseeing system updates and financial reporting.

What You Bring:

·       A degree in finance, accounting, or business administration. A CPA designation would be an asset. Candidates must actively be working toward a CPA designation.

·       Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, reporting, and operations, preferably in a public sector environment.

·       Strong financial analysis and problem-solving abilities.

·       Proficiency in financial systems and reporting tools.

·       Experience and knowledge of Saskatchewan’s public service and knowledge of the legislative branch is beneficial.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for a finance professional looking to make an impact and grow in a leadership-oriented financial role. Join our team and contribute to the ongoing success of Saskatchewan’s Legislative Assembly Service.

All employees of the Legislative Assembly Service are required to provide non-partisan, confidential service to all Members of the Legislative Assembly and the successful candidate will need to provide a satisfactory criminal record check.
