This is an outstanding opportunity for an accomplished Chief Engineer to join the facilities operations team responsible for one of Toronto’s most prominent Class A office complexes. In this highly visible role, you will oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and long-term planning of sophisticated building systems that support a vibrant mix of corporate tenants. You’ll ensure that all mechanical, electrical, and life-safety systems perform at peak efficiency, while maintaining the comfort, safety, and satisfaction of building occupants. Working closely with senior leadership and a trusted network of service partners, the Chief Engineer will play a vital role in advancing operational excellence, energy efficiency, and sustainability goals across the portfolio. Contract Type: Full-time contract for 15 months, with potential for extension - Salary is 6-figure based on experience
Description
- Oversee daily operations and maintenance of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems, ensuring reliability and compliance.
- Monitor and evaluate performance of third-party service providers against contractual KPIs, including maintenance quality, safety, and energy performance.
- Serve as the primary liaison for tenant service requests and operational escalations, ensuring swift and effective resolutions.
- Conduct regular building inspections to identify system deficiencies, plan preventive maintenance, and forecast long-term capital requirements.
- Partner with sustainability and engineering teams to reduce utility consumption and improve building performance through data-driven energy management.
- Participate in annual budget preparation, monitoring expenditures, and identifying opportunities to reduce operating costs through efficiency initiatives.
- Manage capital projects from conception through completion, ensuring work is executed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Maintain compliance with all environmental, health, and safety standards, implementing corrective measures where necessary.
- Participate in emergency response protocols, after-hours call rotations, and incident investigations.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Architecture, or Environmental Building Sciences (Electrical or Mechanical preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive experience in facilities or property operations within large, complex environments such as high-rise offices, mixed-use developments, campuses, or luxury hospitality properties.
- Strong technical knowledge of building automation systems (BAS), mechanical/electrical operations, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Demonstrated experience in energy management, sustainability projects, and performance optimization.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams, vendors, and tenants.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while maintaining focus on service quality.
- Certifications such as RPA, FMA, or P.Eng considered assets.
- Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
