Sr. Manager Commercial Underwriting

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Commercial Insurance Manager to join a large insurance client on a hybrid, full time position based out of Calgary.

This leadership role oversees a growing team of eight underwriters responsible for managing broker-sourced commercial insurance business. The successful candidate will act as a strategic liaison across departments, including operations and IT, while driving profitability and managing loss trends across Alberta.

Day-to-day, they will facilitate underwriting activities, support complex account reviews, and serve as a key relationship ambassador for broker partners, addressing concerns and fostering trust.

With at least one year of experience managing a team of three or more, and ideally 7–10 years in commercial underwriting or a related insurance discipline (or equivalent experience in banking or finance), the candidate will guide strategic planning, ensure quality through audits and referrals, and implement workflow and technology improvements.

The successful candidate will not be expected to manage their own book of business, this is simply a management role. This role demands strong coaching and performance management skills, along with the ability to lead change and deliver on growth and budgetary objectives.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- 7+ years of experience in finance or insurance with at least 3 years in a commercial insurance role - 1 year experience in management leading a team of three or more people.
