- Business Development 15: Salaries typically range from $65, 172 to $86, 898 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.
Location:
- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
- This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, or Vancouver.

Team Overview The Customer Care Team (CCT), Exporter Engagement Team (EET), and Small Business National Accounts (SBNA) teams work together to deliver seamless service, support, and growth for Canadian exporters. The Exporter Engagement Team acts as the primary inbound contact point for prospects and partners. The team triages inquiries, educates new exporters on EDC solutions, and qualifies leads generated through marketing, partner channels, and digital pathways—ensuring high potential opportunities are directed to the right teams quickly. The Customer Care Team provides service and operational support to customers across all market segments. The team resolves technical issues, assists with navigation of digital tools, handles policy administration inquiries, and ensures customers receive timely and accurate support throughout their journey. Small Business National Accounts focuses exclusively on small business customers, supporting their long‑term growth through proactive account management, renewals, and cross‑sell opportunities. The team manages higher‑growth and more complex customer needs within the Small Business portfolio, using both dedicated account management and a pooled servicing approach to ensure customers receive the right level of support. Together, these teams form a connected support and sales group that helps Canadian companies navigate exporting with confidence. They ensure customers and prospects—receive the guidance, expertise, and support they need at every stage of their relationship with EDC. Role Overview The Exporter Engagement Advisor serves as the primary intake point for inbound prospects and partners, including both new prospects and existing EDC customers, ensuring Canadian companies receive timely, clear guidance on how EDC can support their business needs. The role focuses on assessing and qualifying inbound opportunities for EDC solutions, providing education on EDC’s offerings, and guiding prospects, customers & partners to appropriate next steps—either within EDC or through partner programs within the broader ecosystem—supporting continuity of engagement through clear nextstep guidance and intake reference mechanisms while maintaining strong documentation and contributing to continuous improvement of engagement tools and practices. What You Will Be Doing
- Act as the first point of contact for inbound prospect and partner inquiries received via phone, email, web forms, campaigns, internal referrals, and partner referrals, triaging requests and clarifying business needs through discovery conversations and initial education on EDC’s role in supporting Canadian companies.
- Assess and qualify inbound leads for alignment with EDC products and services in accordance with established intake rules, eligibility criteria, and compliance requirements, routing qualified opportunities to Account Managers and Relationship Managers, and guiding unqualified prospects to alternate partner programs and ecosystem organizations with clear navigational support and alternative solutions, escalating complex cases or exceptions to senior colleagues as required.
- Provide timely, accurate communication, including customized follow‑up emails that summarize guidance provided, confirm next steps, enable continued engagement through structured hand‑offs or reference numbers, and support a consistent, high‑quality prospect experience.
- Document prospect interactions, business needs, outcomes, and follow‑up actions using available tools and systems, including ServiceNow and CRM systems, ensuring data accuracy and completeness, and supporting reporting, pipeline quality, sales awareness, and business development insight.
- Represent the Exporter Engagement team by sharing prospect insights, including observed trends in inbound demand, and contributing to the development, review, and continuous improvement of documentation standards, job aids, scripts, and playbooks, supporting adoption of improved tools and practices through frontline feedback.
What We Are Looking For
- Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Commerce
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in business development, sales, client account management, or relevant experience
- Strong sales, client relationship, and account management skills
- Demonstrated analytical skills, good judgment, and problem‑solving ability
- Comfortable managing daily inbound prospect inquiries in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong verbal communication skills, bilingual (English and French)
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to work scheduled hours 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. EST, Monday to Friday
What Will Make You Stand Out
- Business development experience in banking, financial services, international business, or international trade
- Knowledge of international business practices and exporting
- Experience in a customer contact centre environment
- Experience using ServiceNow (CSM module), CRMs and/or Genesys Cloud
- CITP (Certified International Trade Professional) designation or in progress
