Senior Construction Project Accountant
(Construction | EPCM | Program & Project Delivery Infrastructure | Multi-Entity | Cross-Border | Spectrum ERP Preferred)**
Location: Ontario, Canada **
Company: ClearBlue Infrastructure Group**
Role Type: Full-time, Hybrid / Remote Flexibility**
About ClearBlue
ClearBlue Infrastructure Group is a fast-scaling North American program and project delivery infrastructure firm specializing in complex, mission-critical energy-transition projects. We deliver institutional-grade EPCM and program management services across Canada and the United States, with rigorous financial discipline and a culture built on accountability, precision, and execution.
As we continue to scale, this role becomes a critical foundation of our financial stability and project performance.
Position Summary
We are hiring a Senior Senior Construction Project Accountant who is exceptionally detail-oriented, financially sharp, highly organized, and relentlessly reliable. This hybrid role supports daily financial operations while also acting as a project financial controller across multiple infrastructure programs.
This individual must confidently operate within a multi-entity, cross-border (Canada/US) structure and serve as a financial partner to the project teams. They will monitor budgets, flag margin erosion, control committed costs, track every PO and purchase, and lead weekly project financial reviews with Project Managers.
We want someone with financial leadership instincts, confidence, and hunger for career growth — someone who wants to become a future Project Accounting Lead, Assistant Controller, or Controller as ClearBlue scales.
This is not clerical bookkeeping. This is financial command and control for a high-performance EPCM/project-delivery organization.
Key Responsibilities1. Project Accounting, Job Costing & Performance Monitoring
• Set up jobs, cost codes, budgets across multiple Canadian and U.S. entities
• Maintain accurate, real-time project financial records
• Monitor budgets vs. actuals and proactively flag cost drift and margin erosion
• Conduct root-cause analysis of margin variances
• Prepare WIP schedules, profitability snapshots, and monthly reporting
• Lead weekly financial review meetings with PMs to ensure alignment and accountability
• Track committed costs, actuals, accruals, and forecast adjustments
• Reconcile project expenses weekly; resolve issues immediately
• Support progress billing, holdbacks, changes, retainage, lien releases
• Build and refine financial tracking tools for PMs and leadership
2. Purchasing, Procurement & PO Controls
• Monitor, track, verify, and reconcile all POs and purchases
• Ensure proper job coding, cost categorization, and allocation
• Work closely with Procurement to validate pricing, receipts, and supporting documentation
• Track open POs, commitments, and vendor exposure
• Reinforce PO discipline and create improved workflows across the business
3. Full-Cycle Bookkeeping & Multi-Entity Operations
• End-to-end AP/AR across multiple legal entities
• Intercompany allocations and reconciliations
• CAD and USD bank reconciliations
• Journal entries, accruals, amortizations, cross-border adjustments
• Maintain a clean, auditable digital record system
• Support month-end close with speed, accuracy, and completeness
4. Cost Control & Cashflow Support
• Monitor weekly cash requirements per entity
• Identify overspending early and escalate appropriately
• Prepare spend analysis and financial insights for leadership
• Support CFO/Controller on cost containment initiatives and working capital planning
5. Payroll & Labor Cost Management
• Validate time entry, job costing, overtime, burden, and allocations
• Support payroll processing with accurate backup
• Ensure labor costing ties correctly into WIP and project performance
6. Systems, Reporting & Financial Best Practices
• Strong Spectrum ERP capability (or ability to master rapidly)
• Procore experience an asset
• Advanced Excel modeling: pivots, lookups, multi-sheet reconciling, dashboards
• Improve templates, workflows, documentation standards, and reporting processes
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation in financial operations
Who Thrives in This Role
This person is:
• Confident in their financial judgment
• A natural leader even without the title
• Hungry for progression into senior roles
• Assertive but professional when holding PMs accountable
• Obsessed with accuracy, completeness, and documentation
• A builder of systems, not just a follower of systems
• A problem-solver, not a problem-describer
• Calm under pressure and steady during deadlines
• Relentless in tracking, monitoring, and closing financial loops
• Proud of delivering accuracy and value to the organization
Qualifications
• 5–10+ years bookkeeping or project accounting (construction/EPCM required)
• Experience tracking budgets vs. actuals and margin erosion
• Strong understanding of project controls in an infrastructure environment
• Mandatory: multi-entity accounting
• Preferred: cross-border (Canada/US) accounting
• Strong WIP, job costing, and financial analytics capability
• Spectrum ERP preferred
• High proficiency in Excel, financial reconciliation, and documentation
What Success Looks Like
• Daily books are clean, complete, and accurate across all entities
• Budgets vs. actuals monitored relentlessly — issues caught early
• PMs supported, aligned, and financially accountable
• PO and purchasing discipline elevated across the company
• Margin erosion identified and escalated before it becomes irreversible
• Month-end closes fast, clean, and predictable
• Workflows and processes continue improving, not stagnating
• Leadership receives timely insights that drive better decisions
