The City is seeking a Section Manager of Events & Festivals to oversee all programming elements in the City’s public spaces, including the City’s premier public destination venue, The Shipyards. With its stunning views, flexible open-air spaces, and current offering of diverse and vibrant programs, The Shipyards is considered one of the most successful public spaces in Metro Vancouver. Based Within The City’s Infrastructure, Transportation & Parks Department And Reporting To The Manager, Shipyards & Waterfront The Section Manager Of Events & Festivals Responsibilities Include:

• Lead the development, planning, and execution of diverse programming, including festivals, special events, cultural activations, and innovative public-space experiences that enhance The Shipyards as a premier waterfront destination;

• Develop and implement the City’s Special Events Policy to support place management objectives and strengthen community connections within public spaces;
• Work cross-departmentally to align programming with broader municipal priorities related to public space activation and vibrancy, economic vitality, community engagement and cultural expression. Work closely with community groups, local businesses and cultural organizations to guide programming and initiatives that contribute to vibrant, inclusive public spaces;
• Monitor evaluate and report on event performances using appropriate metrics, analytics to inform planning, support presentations and reporting;
• Oversee marketing and programming budgets;
• Foster interdepartmental collaboration with teams from Communications, Fire, RCMP and North Vancouver Recreation Commission;
• Liaise and host regular meetings with partners and key interest holders.

This position will oversee a small team of programming staff, providing leadership, coordinating schedules, and supporting the planning and delivery of programs, events, and festivals. Responsibilities include developing and implementing annual programming plans and ensuring their effective delivery and execution. The position will administer and coordinate contract service providers and work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to deliver high-quality programming. Weekend work will be required to support festival and event delivery. Requirements Qualifications include a degree in creative industries, tourism hospitality event management, place management, business, or related field, complemented by several years of related work experience. Significant knowledge of placemaking and urbanism, programming, event marketing and sponsorship together with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across a broad range of stakeholders is required. Strong leadership skills built through demonstrated experience managing staff is also required. Compensation We offer an attractive remuneration and benefits package for this exempt position, including a compressed work schedule. The salary range is $108,804 – $126,840 annually (2024 rates).
