Structural Steel Detailer

Cherubini Bridges and Structures, a member of the Cherubini Group of Companies, is looking for an intermediate Structural Steel Detailer to join the drafting department at our main office in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Summary

For more than 50 years, Cherubini has provided custom steel solutions to clients around the world. We specialize in a full range of bridge structures, structural steel, offshore structures, and miscellaneous steel. Cherubini is proud to provide a full range of project services from fabrication, to metalizing, to transportation, and erection.

Our detailers are responsible for the development and preparation of detailed fabrication and erection drawings, preparing material and bolt lists, writing technical reports, and ensuring that fabrication and erection documents conform to specifications and design data. Fabrication and erection drawings are prepared based on conventional drawings, digital data (survey files, 3D models), hand drawn sketches, and written instructions.

Detailing work will be primarily carried out using Tekla Structures. The successful candidate must have previous experience working within Tekla.

Preparation of deliverables will also require the use of AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare fabrication and erection documents. This can include drawings, material lists, reports, and digital data required for programming shop equipment.
  • Maintain proficiency with Tekla Structures and supporting technology.
  • Develop and prepare design sketches as required for coordination, RFI’s, etc.
  • Scrutinize design drawings to ensure conformance with specifications and standard construction/design requirements.
  • Review tender documents.
  • Collaborate with in-house and external engineers on design-build projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and production staff in order to maintain and improve overall efficiency, and to ensure the detailed product is in line with our manufacturing capabilities.
  • Respond quickly to the shop floor's needs in response to addressing issues that may surface during production regarding the manufacturing spec., Bill of Material, or routings.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to developing team members.
  • Participate in cross-functional, continuous improvement teams as the opportunity presents itself.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • College diploma or university degree in engineering design and drafting technology, engineering, or a related field
  • At least 3 years experience in a detailing/drafting environment using 3D modelling software
  • At least 3 years of experience working with Tekla Structures
  • 3 years of experience supporting mechanical products and assemblies in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to collaborate with internally in order to develop manufacturing documents effectively.
  • Ability to create preliminary designs or conceptualization of design.
  • Ability to create freehand sketches.
  • Ability to create presentation drawings with perspectives using Tekla Structures and/or AutoCAD.
  • The ability to produce succinct reports/presentations to communicate status of assigned projects/tasks.
  • Sound technical background (hands-on) with logical deductive reasoning approach
  • Interest in developing technical skills through both internal and external training
