Job Description Posted Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 8:00 AM | Expires Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 7:59 AM Catholic Social Services is currently seeking full-time overnight awake positions, 40 hours per week, Child & Youth Care Worker II in EDMONTON to join our Turning Points. Providing excellent client-centered care, you are confident, thoughtful, and motivated to achieve success when supporting others in your community. This position has a weekly schedule of: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday (11:00pm - 7:00am), flexibility is required to be able to attend trainings and meetings. Program Overview Turning Points staff are relationship based and take a trauma informed approach to the clients who are beginning to prepare for the transition to independence and adulthood. Supporting individuals from high-risk lifestyles, this position is challenging and rewarding, perfect for individuals who do their best work on their shift. Job Summary The Child and Youth Care Worker (CYCW) helps to improve the physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of vulnerable children and youth. Within a semi-independent residential or community setting, the Child and Youth Care Worker supports youth to assess needs, identify and pursue relevant goals, access and navigate services and increase skills to lead to self-sufficiency in adulthood.  

  • Assesses the needs of the clients taking into consideration any developmental disabilities, trauma, mental health status and emotional support, etc
  • Ensures clients basic needs are met (safety, food, clothing, shelter, emotional needs, spiritual needs and health care needs as directed)
  • Provides consistent often hands- on teaching and support around specific life and daily living skills
  • Assists in identifying resource and support networks to assist in clients’ transition to be independent, autonomous, and self-determined as appropriate to their abilities and experience
  • Establishes and maintains respectful, collaborative working relationships with the client and their key stakeholders
  • Presents as a positive and professional role model and ambassador for the Agency in interactions with clients, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Models and maintains respectful personal boundaries with clients
  • Communicates effectively and respectfully in a professional manner with clients, both verbally and in writing. Actively listens to clients to understand their needs while being aware of and responding to non-verbal communication
  • Documents case notes and updates/maintains files and records data, ensuring the data is accurate and complete. Ensures appropriate and confidential handling and storage of client/Agency information and documentation in accordance with Agency policies and procedures
  • Completes incident reports, serious occurrence reports and/or other administrative duties in a precise and timely manner as per Agency policy and procedures
  • Participates and contributes to service planning with client, identified supports and stakeholders
  • Monitors and reviews the progress of goals identified by client
  • Assists clients to access resources in the community as directed by service team and the Team Leader
  • Communicates effectively and respectfully in a professional and confidential manner with all Agency employees, and internal and external stakeholders
  • Plans and coordinates operational and recreational activities as directed by Team Leader
  • Completes all relevant program documentation
  • Attends and actively participates in scheduled team meetings. Supports team initiatives and helps to identify problems and suggest solutions
  • Attends all mandatory Agency training/employee development opportunities
  • Assists in maintaining building and equipment according to Agency Standards/Policies. Responsible for ensuring cleanliness standards are met. Ensuring timely reporting of any damage or safety concerns.
  • Understands, supports, promotes, and adheres to the Agency’s vision, mission, values, and organizational ethics, and treat all persons with humility, compassion, and respect
  • Performs other related duties as required

What This Job Requires

  • Minimum of a Diploma in a Human Services’ discipline or equivalent
  • Degree in a Human Services’ discipline is an asset
  • Additional relevant certifications or designations considered an asset
  • Minimum of _2_ years’ related professional experience
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Police Information Check including vulnerable sector search, and Intervention Record Check current within six (6) months
  • A reliable Vehicle, Valid Driver’s License (held for a minimum of 2 years), Vehicle Registration and Third Party Liability Insurance (amount of two million)
  • Summary of driving record with no more than six (6) demerit points current within one (1) year.

  • Sound knowledge of the following techniques is required: crisis intervention, anger diffusion, conflict intervention and resolution
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality and diplomacy; with ability to manage sensitive and confidential information and comply with all regulatory requirements and Agency Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures
  • High degree of resourcefulness and flexibility to adapt to changing needs of clients, circumstances, programs, and Agency
  • Effective client-service attitude and commitment to providing exceptional client service and quality results with empathy and compassion
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Awareness of and sensitivity towards those with diverse needs
  • Demonstrated professional problem solving, critical thinking and appropriate judgment skills
  • Effective English-language communication skills, both verbal and written, to communicate, understand, comprehend, and comply with all job requirements
  • Collaborative skills: willingness to work as a team member, consulting and sharing information with colleagues and community partners, and contributing to the development and evaluation of programs
  • Effective interpersonal and conflict management skills to facilitate working effectively with wide range and number of people, including clients, Agency staff, and external stakeholders and resources
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Agency policies and procedures, as well as relevant legislation, regulations, practice standards and practice guidelines
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision
  • Competent in working with applicable Microsoft Office suite programs
  • Proficient in use of other Agency-assigned computer applications and databases
  • Knowledgeable of community resources
  • Ability and willingness to work various shifts (which may include days, evenings, and/or weekends) and overtime as required to meet client and Agency needs
  • Ability and willingness to travel, as required, to different offices, programs, and other sites to attend meetings, presentations, and/or training
