Your leadership experience within our payroll team is exactly what we are seeking for our Payroll Lead role. Working in our Calgary head office offers amazing opportunities, including being involved in critical planning, implementation, coaching and mentorship. While leading a team of payroll professionals, you will work collaboratively to ensure the needs of Canadian Natural are met and company values are adhered to.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and mentor assigned payroll team members, providing guidance and support
  • Conduct regular team meetings to discuss updates, challenges, and ongoing projects
  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring accuracy in calculations and compliance with legislation and company policies
  • Validate payroll data, timecards, and reporting
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll regulations
  • Maintain and enhance payroll systems and software, ensuring data integrity and security
  • Collaborate with HR Systems Team on Oracle updates and testing required to resolve any payroll system issues
  • Perform regular audits of payroll processes to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions
  • Develop and implement payroll policies and procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Support the collaboration of preparation and distribution of T4 slips and summaries in compliance with Canada Revenue Agency guidelines
  • Ensure accurate reporting of taxable benefits, deductions, and other payroll-related year-end adjustments
  • Work closely with areas of the business to ensure that HR policies, programs and processes are administered effectively in compliance with company objectives
  • Assess skill gaps and development opportunities for team members, while maintaining open communication and facilitating two-way feedback within the team
  • Eliminate roadblocks by applying a practical, evidence-based, and sensible approach to problem-solving

What You Bring To The Role

  • Deep payroll experience in a large, complex organization, with prior experience in a leadership role
  • Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP)Designation
  • Expertise in current legislation, employment standards, T4 processing
  • Proficiency in Oracle HCM Cloud is considered an asset
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines, with capability to handle pressure and changes in a dynamic business environment
  • Positive, resourceful and respectful attitude, with excellent interpersonal and team skills
  • Ability to build, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
  • Demonstrate flexibility, open mindset and the ability to focus on important matters while adapting to changes within the work environment
