Shkaabe Makwa at CAMH is the first Indigenous-led hospital-based Centre in Canada established to improve the health and wellbeing of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis across Ontario by advancing wholistic models of mental health and wellness care that are rooted in traditional healing practices. We deliver care, co-design research, and mobilize knowledge and tools to transform health systems. We action community-identified solutions to foster health justice. Position Description And Responsibilities Shkaabe Makwa is seeking a full-time, permanent Senior Consultant, Indigenous Cultural Safety to support the advancement of organizational transformation and systems initiatives in policies, programs, and services for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis patients at CAMH. This role will work directly with the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy (OSP) program at CAMH to lead engagement and provide leadership and support for the development and implementation of the OSP Indigenous Approach, a regional approach to the OSP Program that facilitates access to culturally safe services that considers the experiences and expectations of all Indigenous Peoples in Ontario. In addition to advancing the OSP Indigenous Approach, this position will operate within a collaborative matrix model to facilitate strategic change, build capacity, and enable culturally safe systems and care across all areas of the hospital. The Senior Consultant, Indigenous Cultural Safety supports the active involvement of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis patients and Indigenous service providers in all stages of strategic change, and provides tailored and contextualized expertise on integrating cultural safety, health justice, anti-racism, and anti-oppressive principles into the hospital’s systems and processes. This position will report into the Senior Manager, OSP for OSP-related initiatives and the Director, Strategy and Planning at Shkaabe Makwa for all other projects. Primary Responsibilities Include

  • Lead strategic implementation of CAMH’s Truth and Reconciliation Plan and Indigenous Cultural Safety initiatives across CAMH using systems thinking, human-centered design, and equity-focused approaches.
  • Working with the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy program at CAMH to lead engagement and provide leadership and support with the development and implementation of the OSP Indigenous Approach
  • Support strategic planning through stakeholder engagement, environmental scanning, facilitation, work plan development, and evaluation.
  • Build organizational capacity for strategic change and partnership development that advances Indigenous Cultural Safety and Reconciliation by creating and disseminating tools, resources, and coaching models.
  • Apply foresight and innovation practices to anticipate future challenges and position Shkaabe Makwa and the OSP Indigenous Approach for long-term success.
  • Contribute to Shkaabe Makwa’s partnership strategy, including supporting the development, maintenance and evaluation of key partnerships
  • Collaborate across portfolios, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and facilitate meaningful engagement processes.

Job Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent to be First Nations, Inuit or Métis with demonstrated community connections.
  • A university degree in health sciences, public health, health policy/administration, business administration, design, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in consulting, strategy, or healthcare settings; experience in mental health and addictions is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems thinking, human-centered design, partnership-building, and strategic implementation. Strong facilitation, coaching, and communication and writing skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and drive organizational change.
  • Ability to frame and synthesize insights and pitch ideas persuasively.
  • Proven experience in managing complex projects, analyzing data, and developing practical and creative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Experience working with equity-driven and anti-oppressive approaches and embedding them into strategic processes. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a matrixed team environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Thorough understanding of principles and practices of Indigenous engagement is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, cultures, perspectives and health service providers.
  • A growth mindset and strong problem-solving, organizational, and leadership abilities.
