Honouring the Spirit of Our Little Sisters is a six-bed, Indigenous program for sexually exploited girls and transgender youth 13-17 years of age who require specialized care and a safe home environment to support their healing journey from sexual exploitation. The facility operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and offers a range of assessment and support services. All six beds run at a high rate of occupancy within short-term and long- term residency. The facility is a safe and nurturing environment where youth have the opportunity to experience a strong sense of caring, support and encouragement, while building capacity to achieve their dreams. Responsibilities:
- Participates in establishing, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of program, policies, standards and procedures.
- Maintains an awareness of and facilitates knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and practices of governments and external agencies that impact upon the program.
- Assists in hiring new employees.
- Provides direction and supervision of operational directive with staff.
- Assists individual staff in the assessment, review and the case management plan.
- Updates staff work performance, Identifies and arranges individual and program area training needs.
- Scheduling and other administrative tasks related to the role.
- Identifies and arranges individual and program area training needs.
- Approves expenditures relating to the area of responsibility.
- Maintains an accurate record of statistical and financial information.
Qualifications:
- BSW degree or acceptable equivalent and related experience.
- Ability to work under demanding conditions and must have the capacity for on-call.
- Passionate, committed and engaged in improving the lives of children/youth, their supports and families.
- Dedicated to providing trauma-informed interventions and de-escalation techniques, strength-based approach, harm reduction and Family Group conferencing.
- Independent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Indigenous culture, history and tradition, with a commitment to incorporating Indigenous perspectives into service delivery with sexually exploited youth.
- Working knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, policies and best practices related to children/youth protection, and advocacy would be an asset, including standards, regulations and policies.
- Residential Care facility experience would be a definite asset.
- Strong motivational and leadership skills, including the ability to set and meet deadlines.
- Ability to promote, organize and facilitate groups and workshops would be considered an asset.
- Ability to work effectively with collateral agencies.
- A team player/facilitator to encourage an environment that fosters effective results in teams.
- Valid Manitoba driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Must provide current (within the last three months) Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Query, Child Abuse Registry Check and be subject to Prior Contact Check.
