Job Description

Posted on: December 9, 2025

The Building Owners and Managers Association of BC (BOMA BC) is the largest commercial real estate association in BC. We offer our members advocacy, environmental programs, education, and an array of networking events.

BOMA BC is part of a consortium of similar organizations (the BC Retrofit Accelerator) that have joined together to develop a program of capacity building for energy reduction and decarbonization of commercial real estate assets with funding from the Government of Canada, under their Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative (DRAI).

About this role:

In this key role, you will be responsible for working closely with our Program Managers, as well as building owners, managers and their building operations teams to investigate, plan, and allocate resources to accelerate strategic decarbonization programs for large commercial buildings (office, retail, and light industrial).

Reporting to the Program Director, this role requires strong time management skills, exceptional communication skills and the ability to work with a highly collaborative team of internal and external partners as we build strategic and actionable pathways to energy reduction and decarbonization of the commercial buildings sector in BC.

A familiarity with energy and decarbonization practices will be essential requirements for this role; as will a solid understanding of commercial HVAC systems, mechanical and electrical systems, building automation and lighting systems.

An understanding of relevant governmental initiatives and funding programs (at all levels), legislation, policies, code requirements and best practices in energy conservation within industry and professional organizations will also be important to this role.

SPECIFIC Duties and responsibilities:

  • Work alongside the Program Team to review program applicants (commercial buildings) for the determination of appropriate fit and program pathway.
  • Attend industry events to network and raise awareness of the BOMA Decarb Accelerator Program and encourage buildings’ participation.
  • Collect and organize building data for program participation (previous energy assessments, building condition reports, utility data, organizational targets).
  • Assist Program Managers with the development of energy assessments, including running energy modelling, retrofit scenarios and payback period calculations.
  • Develop business cases and presentations for program participants, showcasing possible energy conservation measures and retrofit recommendations.
  • Develop building and organizational case studies stemming from program wins. Case studies will showcase energy efficiency and decarbonization activities in terms of energy, GHG and costs savings scenarios as well as larger corporate objectives of cost avoidance, regulatory compliance, and environmental performance.
  • Keep program tracking spreadsheets up to date. This involves inputting administrative details for each participant building, as well as their progress on retrofits and anticipated and realized energy savings.
  • Coordinate training-related needs for building operations staff. Source and align further resources to fulfill such gaps.
  • Coordinate delivery models for participant buildings. This involves inputting building systems and equipment data into a resource platform, aligning metrics with the program participants’ goals, and then ensuring KPIs are being met to ensure participants are deriving full value from the program.
  • Stay up to date on evolving energy and GHG emissions policies and regulations relating to the commercial buildings industry.
  • Remain current on available market incentives for commercial applications of energy and emission reductions and advise the program team accordingly.
  • Interface with various levels of government & utilities to understand and promote their support programs.

QUALIFICATIONSAs the ideal candidate, you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a degree in Environmental Management or related discipline.

or

  • Completion of energy management training such as Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Certified Energy Manager, Canadian Institute for Energy Training (CIET)
  • Fundamental knowledge of concepts, theories, practices and techniques in energy conservation and environmental sustainability.
  • Strong relationship management, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to persuade others and build collaborative relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Experience in energy modelling and project costing.
  • Experience working within the commercial buildings sector.
  • Well-developed work ethic, outstanding organizational skills, ability to manage time and shift priorities as/when required.
  • Excellent communication skills:
  • Written: ability to create clear and compelling case studies and reports, with exceptional attention to detail, that balance technical and general knowledge for distribution to a wide audience.
  • Verbal: ability to communicate effectively and with patience when in a training environment.
  • Positive attitude and professional approach to working relationships.
  • Commitment to exercising good judgment and respecting confidentiality.
  • Proven experience working in team environments to collectively complete projects.
  • Strong track record to foresee and manage issues, navigating steps to solve problems/remove barriers where needed.
  • Proficiency with MS Office software products.
  • Familiarity with Energy Star Portfolio Manager.

Benefits – Why you’ll love working with us:

  • Competitive pay
  • Minimum of fifteen days of vacation
  • Competitive employer-paid extended health and dental plan
  • Flexible and remote work arrangements are available
  • Wellness and Employee Assistance programs

Salary range: $75,000 - $85,000 /yr.
