Job Description

Posted on: March 19, 2026

About BHP At BHP, we believe our purpose goes beyond mining: we work to improve lives and create a more sustainable future. We are a global resources company with operations in more than 90 locations worldwide. In Canada, our presence is growing with the development of one of the most significant potash projects in the world—Jansen. This project reflects our long-term commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and economic growth. About Potash And The Jansen Project Imagine being part of something truly world-class, something that’s shaping the future of sustainable agriculture and responsible resource development. That’s what the Jansen Potash Project offers. Located about 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jansen is set to become one of the largest and most sustainable potash mines on the planet. With a CAD $14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment, it marks the largest private investment in Saskatchewan’s history, and a bold step forward for BHP in Canada. But Jansen is more than a mine; it's a long-term opportunity to build something meaningful. During construction, it will create around 5,500 jobs, and once in operation, 900 permanent roles. Whether you're looking to grow your career, contribute to a sustainable future, or be part of a legacy project, Jansen could be the place where it all begins. Why BHP? At BHP, we are transforming the way mining is done. We embrace innovation, sustainability, and inclusion to build a smarter, safer, and more human future. We are proud to be recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2025, a testament to our dedication to fostering a positive, diverse, and rewarding work environment. At BHP, you’ll be part of a team that values safety, integrity, performance, and collaboration. The Challenge Ahead As the Principal Mine Planning – Mid Term, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of underground potash mining at Jansen. You will provide expert technical guidance in the design and optimization of underground mine designs and medium‑term mine plans, ensuring decisions support safe, reliable, and efficient operations. Your work will directly influence operational readiness, value optimization, geotechnical compliance, and the execution capability of the mine—contributing to one of BHP’s most significant global growth projects. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, geotechnically compliant underground mine designs aligned to jurisdictional guidelines and operational inputs.
  • Develop and deliver medium‑term mine production plans aligned with business objectives and execution capabilities.
  • Define and develop ranged production plans to assess uncertainties and material risks.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Estimate costs and define fleet and equipment needs in autonomous mining environments to achieve productivity targets.
  • Apply structured problem-solving approaches to address complex challenges and evaluate multiple solutions.
  • Prioritize work and resources to meet business objectives and operational timelines.

RequiredWhat You’ll Bring to the Role

  • Technical diploma or degree in Mining Engineering or an equivalent earth sciences field.
  • Advanced competence in mine planning software and tools.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in underground mine design and mine planning.

Recommended

  • Experience in potash mining (production, technical management, and/or project management).
  • Experience in major capital studies or mining projects.
  • Strong writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of multidiscipline engineering and industry standards.
  • Exposure to underground potash mine design, planning, and operations.

Work Location This role is based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with regular collaboration across the Jansen site and technical teams. The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week. Why Not You? With operations worldwide, BHP offers limitless opportunities. Whether it’s competitive benefits, international career pathways, or the chance to be part of a world‑class project like Jansen, you can shape a career that’s truly yours. If you're looking for a place where your work has purpose, your growth is supported, and your impact is real — this could be your next step.
