AVSS is a Canadian aerospace company and the global leader in guided and unguided parachute recovery systems for drones. Our technologies are deployed worldwide by commercial operators, defense organizations, and government agencies to improve safety, survivability, and operational reliability of drones.

AVSS is expanding its product offerings with new products and end-to-end solutions for dual-use applications. These new products and end-to-end solutions include energetic delivery systems for avalanche mitigation, motors for small drones, and threat detection systems for ground robots.

AVSS products are designed, tested, and manufactured to meet the rigorous performance, quality, and reliability standards required for both commercial and military applications. The company works closely with enterprise customers, defense partners, and regulatory bodies to ensure its systems integrate seamlessly into complex operational environments.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Own all aspects of mechanical design
  • Work with the senior team to build product roadmaps
  • Design for manufacturing and robotic assembly
  • CAD Design (Autodesk)
  • Prototyping and testing
  • Building and maintaining a BOM
  • Interfacing with suppliers
  • Building and reviewing technical specifications
  • Assisting team members with testing and meeting specifications
  • Caring about the product and working to make it better through user experience research and mocking up new features
  • Working closely with the engineering development team to review requirements and define estimates and plans
  • Ensuring the development process is constantly improving as the company scales
  • Making sure all technical aspects are transparent to the rest of the company

Qualifications and Skills

Need to have:

  • 10 years of product development experience.
  • At least a post-secondary degree with a focus in the field of studies of mechanical engineering.
  • Must have experience with embedded systems and Design for Manufacturing
  • Additionally, they must have experience with the necessary commercialization tools (e.g., 3d printer, CNC machining, AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Excellent English communications (written and verbal) to communicate effectively with peers and stakeholders across the organization
  • Choice ownership
  • A passion for learning

Nice to have:

  • A background in aerospace and/or automotive manufacturing
  • Experience with embedded systems, industrial product development
  • Strong interest and desire to learn about autonomous vehicle technologies
  • Collaborative contributions or side projects demonstrating a desire to hone your craft
  • Working in an office and a distributed workforce environment
  • Excellent time-management, multi-tasking, and communication skills

Flexible language requirement:

  • French not required

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Carp, ON K0A 1L0: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
