Job Details DescriptionMedical Laboratory Assistant (MLA)Pacific Centre for Reproductive Medicine (PCRM) Location: Edmonton About The Role We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) to play a key role in supporting clinical and administrative laboratory operations. This position requires a high level of accuracy, accountability, and collaboration, as laboratory work directly impacts patient care, clinical decisions, and treatment outcomes. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties (MLA Scope)
- Perform phlebotomy (if qualified) and assist with specimen collection
- Handle, label, and prepare specimens for laboratory processing
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control and laboratory safety protocols
- Support the Medical Office Assistant team as needed
Laboratory Administrative & Operational Support
- Respond to phone and email inquiries or triage to the appropriate lab staff
- Perform data entry for laboratory reports (e.g., semen analysis, IUI, OPU, FET)
- Prepare and issue Patient Embryology Cycle Reports
- Assist with BORN National Data Registry entries
- Maintain cryostorage records, including tank receiving/sending and inventory tracking
- Issue cryostorage renewal notifications to the business office
- Maintain donor sperm and oocyte inventory records
- Print laboratory labels, worksheets, and documentation packages
- Scan, file, and manage laboratory documentation
- Receive and track laboratory supplies and equipment
- Support the preparation of reports and database entries
- Perform other administrative duties as required
Qualifications
- Medical Laboratory Assistant Diploma or Medical Office Assistant Diploma preferred
- Previous experience in a clinical or laboratory environment is an asset
- Phlebotomy experience is highly preferred
