We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Corporate Controller to manage and lead the financial operations of our organization. Based in Montreal, this role is responsible for the full accounting cycle, financial reporting, treasury, tax, payroll, benefits administration, and budgeting. The Controller will also oversee annual audits, support compliance with a number of international entities, and manage related sales tax and VAT filings.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical accounting expertise, excellent organizational skills, and proficiency in both NetSuite ERP and Microsoft Office Suite. The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player who thrives in a structured yet growing environment.
Key Responsibilities:Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Oversee full-cycle accounting and month-end/year-end close processes.
- Maintenance of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Analyze accounts, schedules and post journal entries to the system.
- Prepare and analyze accurate financial statements in accordance with ASPE or IFRS.
- Reconcile intercompany accounts on a monthly basis
- Maintain and optimize internal accounting policies and controls.
- Manage consolidated financial reporting for the Canadian head office and select international entities.
- Leading the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable (A/P) and billings & collection (A/R).
- Provide support on complex projects and ad hoc reports.
- Internal controls knowledge
Payroll & Benefits Administration
- Process payroll for all Canadian employees, ensuring compliance with Quebec and other provincial and federal regulations.
- Administer the company’s group insurance and RRSP programs, including plan enrolment and liaison with third-party providers.
- Ensure all remittances and filings (CNESST, DAS, etc.) are completed accurately and on time.
Tax Compliance
- Manage GST/QST filings and oversee VAT submissions for international entities, as applicable.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors for corporate income tax filings and ensure regulatory compliance.
Audit Coordination
- Lead the year-end audit process for Canadian operations and support audits for international subsidiaries.
- Prepare necessary audit documentation and liaise with external auditors.
ERP & Reporting Tools
- Act as internal lead for NetSuite ERP implementation, including reporting, workflows, and data integrity.
- Leverage Microsoft Excel and other Office Suite tools for reporting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- AI integration
Budgeting & Analysis
- Lead the annual budgeting process and regular forecasting activities.
- Provide insightful variance analysis and financial reporting to senior management.
- Assist with cash flow management and treasury support.
Team Management & Cross-Functional Support
- Supervise and support the accounting team.
- Work closely with HR, Operations, and other departments to ensure smooth financial and administrative operations.
Qualifications:
- CPA designation required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 4+ years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
- Strong hands-on experience with NetSuite (mandatory).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and the full Microsoft Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of Canadian payroll and Quebec provincial requirements.
- Experience managing group benefits and RRSP programs.
- Familiarity with basic international accounting, including VAT and subsidiary reporting, is a plus but not a primary focus.
- Bilingual (French/English) strongly preferred.
- Experience in predominantly distribution, retail companies is considered an asset.
- Having worked in an accounting firm is an asset.
