Job Title: Senior Accountant

Location: Burnaby, BC
Work Setting: Hybrid, Monday to Friday. This role requires working onsite at our Burnaby, BC office four days per week, with one day per week working from home.
Compensation: $85,000-$115,000 CAD, depending on experience

Role Overview:
The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Director of Accounting and will perform various tasks in financial operations and financial reporting while supervising junior staff. You will be responsible for preparing accurate financial records, reviewing junior staff’s work, contributing to streamlining processes in key cycles and establishing strong internal control.
Key responsibilities
Month-end Close
- Perform month-end close activities, ensuring timely completion of reconciliations and working papers
- Perform detailed review of working papers prepared by junior staff
- Assist the director to streamline and improve the month-end closing process to achieve 10 business day close
- Work closely with other departments to ensure smooth operational workflows and accurate financial data
Public Practice Experience
Taxes
- In collaboration with the current team, prepare/review returns and complete submission
- Prepare necessary information for annual tax returns and tax credit claims
- Ensure the company’s tax remittance and submission are up to date
Financial reporting
- Collaborate with the current team to prepare and analyze monthly financial statements including Balance Sheet, Statement of P&L, and Cash Flow under US GAAP
- Prepare/ review various schedules for the note disclosures
- Research and prepare accounting memo for various accounting issues under US GAAP
In addition, you are required to perform the following:
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance on day-to-day accounting tasks.
- Perform any ad hoc tasks upon request
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4+ years of progressively senior experience in accounting positions
- 2+ years of experience in public practice
- 1+ year of experience in month-end close
- CPA or equivalent designation is an asset
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong attention to detail with a proactive problem-solving approach
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in NetSuite is an asset
- Someone who is proactive and willing to take on hands-on tasks to drive results
