Work Environment:
Rotation-based (6 weeks on-site / 4 weeks off-site), based in the regional office. Regular coordination with drilling, reservoir, and planning teams. Frequent interaction with National Oil Company (NOC) partners and joint ventures, especially in North Africa.
Job Purpose:
The Geoscience Team Leader manages a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality subsurface interpretations to support reservoir characterization, well planning, and development. The role ensures geological and geophysical models are technically sound, integrated, and updated to support forecasting, reserves, and business planning.
The position involves integrating seismic, log, core, and structural data into coherent interpretations and models. The Team Leader ensures technical consistency, timely delivery, and cross-functional collaboration with reservoir, drilling, and production teams.
This role includes direct engagement with NOC partners, including technical presentations, data requests, and alignment with partner expectations and approval cycles.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead development of geoscience interpretations for modeling, well planning, and field development.
- Integrate seismic, well, core, and petrophysical data into structural and stratigraphic models.
- Organize and QA datasets for modeling, technical reviews, and data room use.
- Ensure geoscience outputs are current, technically sound, and aligned with development goals.
- Provide input for well planning: geohazards, geosteering, and post-drill reviews.
- Work closely with reservoir engineers to align geoscience inputs with modeling needs.
- Interface with third-party vendors and internal studies teams.
- Manage documentation and submission processes to meet NOC and partner requirements.
- Support workflow standardization and team-wide technical consistency.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:
- 10+ years in subsurface, with strong field development/production geoscience background.
- Experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team(s).
- Experienced in the characterisation and exploitation of carbonate reservoirs - particularly those in the MENA region.
- Proven integration of complex datasets into actionable subsurface models.
- Highly organized, with data management and presentation experience, including partner reviews and data rooms.
- Familiar with reservoir engineering workflows and data integration needs.
- Collaborative team player across subsurface and operational disciplines.
- Experience in industry-standard software packages such as Petrel.
- Prior experience in NOC-led or JV environments, particularly in North Africa, is strongly preferred.
- Exposure to reserves classification, uncertainty analysis, and assurance processes is a plus.
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Additional specialization in sedimentology, structural geology, or reservoir geoscience is beneficial.
Personal Qualities Required:
A technically strong, organized leader able to manage complex geoscience workflows and integrate diverse datasets. Confident working with NOC partners, aligning outputs with business and operational needs. Strong communicator, cross-discipline collaborator, and quality-focused team leader with adaptability and cultural awareness.
